Geocities.com pages not accessible in India????

For the last one week, I couldn't access any Geocities.com homepage.

Anybody noticed this?

I wouldent say you were missing anything, geocities pages are just a load of junk that kids learn HTML with.

 

What URL are you trying to access?

 

I'm trying to access www.geocities.com as well as other geocities.com homepages such as mine in the signature. No luck.

 

Well I pay $3 a month to keep the ads out.

 

Its not opening here as well..I am in Mumbai.

thats the biggest problem with such free services being used widely; Similarly there occurs problem with *.blogspot.com here in Pakistan

 

I am using BSNL dataone and I am not able to access Geocities as well from here. Any press release on the issue?

 

I'm using Airtel and I also used the alternative Tata Indicom

Nothing will make it open. How was this possible? IP address checking I guess.

 

You sure its only for Indians? Maybe its down for everyone?

Well, it works in the UK .

So I guess the problem must be at your end.

 

Geocities is also unaccessible in China, but so is half the web so..

 

That's mean. Anyhow I was asked to give my last 8 digits of credit card no., so many security stuff to the moron who dealt with my complaint at GEocities.com

The moron doesn't want to cross-check and look at the wayward reply I get.

Yes this problem exists for about a month now. Most of the Indian ISP providers installs anti-hacker sofware on user's PC and possibly at their server which allows only some of the ports e.g. 80 . However, it seems Geocities is using some other port for past few weeks and so this problem is only being seen in India.

I've raised this issue with Yahoo almost 3 weeks back and they are working for a solution.

Please list your service provider's name here so that enough information can be gathered regarding this problem.

My ISP is Sify.

I've also written it to a few news sites and www.digg.com . Hopefully it will be published soon and will help in a quick resolution of the problem.
