Article about the hot .Me World Record-setting Dot Me Domain Extension Snags C-Level And Seasoned E-commerce: http://eworldwire.com/pressreleases/19021
It's the most successful probably due to the fact that you're forced to pay for 2 years up front, at $40. Just pissed off at how there has to be a landrush period with domain names. There is absolutely NO reason why a fortune 500 company or millionaire should have the right to register a name like "date.me" before a college kid or any average middle class person....I can understand trademarked words, but common should be "early bird catches the worm"
Nothing surprising. .Me as an extension rocks big time. I totally agree with you Mark. Regards, ASHISH T.
thanks for the link. I am surprised that they stated the highest price paid in the landrush auction was 68k,when in fact it was 90k. (could of been a bit better researched) I agree with you in part. But just thought I would point out that "date.me" was one of the 2500 premium names held back by the Registry. They will probably release them to be auctioned off a few at a time. (it was not a part of the land rush) There is also another list that has been held back for government and registry use. These names are not available for registration by the public. As for the landrush auction, it was open to everyone. All you had to do was register interest in the name or names you wanted within a certain time frame. (at $100 each name) If no one else registered interest in the name that you registered interest in, then the name was awarded to you for two years. If someone else did register interest in the same name as you, then the name went to auction, and only those people who registered interest in the name were allowed to bid on it. If you did not win the auction, then the $100 was reimbursed. But I do agree with you, it should have been on a "first come first served" basis. I think it is the government and registry's way of pushing the price up on high competition names without them having to set them aside as premium names. Cheers James
Well that makes the world record even more impressive, peaple where willing to pay the $100 upfront and then the $40 for 2 years. Allot of peaple can see the huge potential in the dot .Me Luckely they yesterday just put it down to $20 and only 1 year now
