I was excited to see this Digg: http://digg.com/software/Google_Checkout_is_live!

Though soon it turned out to be a classic Google Launch party where everything comes crashing down immediately. If it was ever up.

I was immediately interested in integrating this into our shops so I headed off to the integration manuals only to find numerous 404's:

I'm not based in the United States. Can I process transactions through Google Checkout?

At this time, only merchants with a U.S. address and bank account can process transactions through Google Checkout. We look forward to offering more options in the future.

That has one benefit for us, by the time it launches in the UK there will be Open Source code available for hassle free integration. Saves doing the dirty work myself! Not that I wasn't looking forward to coding it btw...

Froogle took a year or so, I hope Checkout will blow over here within a few months. Before Christmas would be nice!

At the moment it seems pretty similar to paypal from a retailer standpoint (not counting the lower fees).

The one thing that will make it work in the UK is that 75% of us are using google. Thats a far bigger market share than paypal has and it shows how much trust we have in them.
