Ok guys, here is the killer question? Will Chrome kill IE & Firefox in next five years? Here, we are inviting DP members to participate in poll and 'shout' their opinion about the future of web browsers.
:-? ask after its launch I guess it will be having good market share, as its search engine Giant and most of them will be using it
I'm really pleased that Google are finally attacking the microsoft I.E domiance, it can only be good for the software market and provide users with more choice.
It is launching in beta version ANY TIME today. If you come across a download link, please share with us
Here is the link google.com/chrome But at the moment it is not working, it will start to work some time today.
Chrome will kill off IE and Firefox in their current guises because it is not just another web browser, it is entirelyy different on the back end. I did a more detailed write up at Geekywood but basically it means that if one website crashes every browser window wont shut down, it means that if you surf hundreds of sites you wont get that insane memory usage that never leaves till you restart the computer and it means that your surfing wil ben a hellova lot faster!
You might change your tune if G ever gets its way and controls all you do online. I wouldn't be so quick to jump aboard just yet...
For the time being I am sticking with firefox. So far it does just about everything I need, so no need to change.
It may take some time, but I think Chrome will become the second most popular browser after IE. Google has a great marketing network and a good technical team. If there are initial flaws, Google will sort out things in a few weeks. Google was promoting Firefox like anything. I am sure they will promote Chrome very aggressively. I don't like making predictions, but my feeling is that by mid-2009 Chrome will overtake Firefox....
well, as most people in the world used google search.. I'm pretty sure google will keep its browser well advertised. it will beat ie and firefox.... I can't wait to download and test it myself.
Google is still investing in Firefox, they'll probably push for Chrome #1, Firefox #2 so then they can dominate the browser industry like they do search.
from the pictures I have seen of chrome its another lame effort from the part of Google to monopolize the activities of internet uses. they are trying to force users of this browser to use Google's services like blogger, orkut, etc but IE has never in the past pitched their own services in the users face. BIG Thumbs down to Google microsoft is not sleeping either they are working on IE8 and the features are amazingly cool http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/beta/features/overview.aspx?tabid=1&catid=1
