My current domain is http://moneyvirtue.com (a technology resource website) which now has an Alexa rank of 350,000 and growing every week. It also comes out on the front page of google when you type in the keyword "Ultimate Technology". I want to switch that to a more suitable name domain which I just bought. http://lgadgets.com (which is not ranked at all). I believe it will do me more good in the long run with this new domain. My dilemma is that do you think I should switch completely to lgadgets.com? Keep both domains on the same content? What will happen to my google keyword search as a result? In need of advice. Thanks.
You should find an seo to help you with the move. I think you use some redirect that forwards the pagerank, but I forget which forward it is. Be careful whatever you do.
you can start by parking the new domain on the same site so that it will be index and receive the same info as the old domain. Always let your visitor know that they can choose both domain to enter your website and make double backlink to the new domain. After a month of two consider forwarding the total website to the new domain and make the old domain redirect using Wild Card. Thanks wussadotcom, I'll have to rethink my decision more thoroughly, but I think I am going to redirect my old domain to my new one and keep it that way till the end of the year.
For future references. Here is how I switched it (Correct me if I am doing something wrong) 301 redirecting - permanent switch 302 redirecting - temporary I've created .htaccess to do a 301 direct on all links from my old domain to my new one. moneyvirtue seems like a much stronger domain and if it is not broken, then why fix it... good luck with the move of course.
Thanks essociate, moneyvirtue is ranked 333,984 on Alexa and the one week average is now below 200,000. However I believe www.lgadgets.com is a more suitable name and is more easier to remember. When I first chose moneyvirtue ... i wanted people to get the thought of spending wisely before buying anything. Now that I think of it, I don't want people to think about money when going to my site but more about the hottest gadgets. I just launched my site early this year so I won't be losing too much.
