Why is your homepage not your own site?

    I posted this thread:

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1033784

and was very surprised to see that the great majority does NOT have their own site as their homepage. Google and 'blank' were the most common.

So my question is 'Why not set your own site as your home page?' If nothing else it will boost your rankings if you have any toolbars (Alexa, Compete, etc).

    Thanks,

Because it's a waste of time. When I open my browser, I want a blank slate. I'm usually working on something for a client, and the last thing I was to see every ten minutes is one of my own sites.

Why would you want your homepage to be your own site? Unless you have one that you actually use on a daily basis it has no use.

It depends. I set my own browser homepage to display google news so that I can read on the latest updates. Anyway, even if I don't make it my homepage, I will also need to update it everyday and view it, so it's more or less the same.

In most cases, homepage is not smth to feast eyes with. I need to start working immediately and in this case last thing I want to see is my homepage :) Quite obvious answer, i think.

I once had one of my sites as the homepage but every time when I open the browser, my site will load on and it will add to the page impressions (which I think unnecessary) and if I accidentally click the ad, then it will lead to problems. That's why I changed it to blank :D
