(based on my experience this week....) I have a .com domain name which forwards to the .co.uk site. I changed it to be with 123-reg and for some reason it stopped working. Maybe this was my mistake I don't know. Anyway I emailed to ask what the problem is and have now got a response 7 days later!!!!! All this time the .com site has not been working. The response says the problem is fixed but the domain still doesn't work. Imagine if I actually used the .com version? As it is there are about 100 links to it so its showing up in google with a stupid error message.
I'd rather not say.....obviously me not stating the url doesn't really back up my complaint. It is a nameserver issue and something I messed up when transferring to 123-reg a few weeks back I think. In my opinion 7 days is too long to wait for a support response.
Fair enough, but I have to suggest that this week in particular is probably not the best week to expect a speedy response to a query about nameservers from 123-reg, what with the .eu landgrab and all. I would expect their support department to be working flat out.
All my domains are on 123-reg..no problem here.....did you change the IPS tag and name servers to theres?
I did change them but obviously made a mistake somewhere along the line. Its more the fact it took 7 days to send a 1 line response to say its fixed (which it isn't) that bothers me. As mcfox says they must be busy this week though. I've been with them for a while with no problems which is why I was transferring a domain to them. This is the first support email I've needed to send though.
I suspect that the nameservers weren't kept when you transferred the domain - I think this only happens for .uk domains. For what it's worth, on the one occassion that I actually needed to contact 123-Reg support (that was over a domain dispute as well, not necessarily a simple "how do I change the nameservers" or something) I got a response within 24 hours. I can't really say anything more because the service has been good enough for me not to call/email support.
I'm with them for hosting too (Webfusion, a part of Pipex), and have encountered slow responses in email support..... Its a bugger for us disabled people who are unable to use the phone lol.......in the end I had to call them and use my PC voice program.......lol ...and the world says email is fast and the next generation communication tool... haha <sigh>
At 60p a minute the telephone support line costs are certainly crippling even though I'm not disabled.
I've used 123-reg for all my domain name purchases without any problems at all. I've also used WebFusion to host a few sites and always found them very helpful on the phone - though naturally I always use someone elses phone to call them on
I have sent them 4 emails in the last week, all with no response, regarding .eu's. They also have several hundred pounds of my cash for unregistered domains which they have yet to refund - zero contact from them, considering this is now the 12th I think the 7th EU landrush domains should have been credited - poor service.
Suppose their control panel can get things set up wrong from time to time, but has been very good service for me. One thing I like about them is that they aren't as annoyingly commercial as others, you order a service and are only asked if you want hosting as an extra... with godaddy.com you go through lists of unrelated cross selling junk that you don't need...
Compila.com (a UK IP) are also very low key when it comes to sales - and cheap too with MySQL, phpbb and wordpress pre-installed, three stats package and very user-friendly cp. I've used them for one site and so far it has been a positive experience.
I have used 123-Reg for a number of years and have noticed a steady decrease in their level of customer service, especially of late. As mentioned by another poster, they have also taken a large amount of money from my credit card for EU domain registration despite not being successful in registering the domains. I am now awaiting a refund of both my pre-registration fees and the domain registration fees, neither of which seem to be forthcoming. The response from their support team is increadibly slow and after such a long wait, I simply received a bog standard 'template' reply. I was so annoyed with them taking the domain registration fees that I have reported them to the Advertising Standards Authority. How can they quote on their website "If we are successful in registering your domain name then there is an additional domain name registration fee of £15.00 for one year per domain" and then take £15 from my credit card for each domain they didn't successfully register ????
Only had to use test their support once as I had renewed a domain but they hadn't updated it on thw whois serveral emails to them and took 10 days for the first reponse, but by this time I had resorted to the premium telephone number... although this took two calls as the first guy said he would update it but didn't. I have heard good things about the support from other people but may decide to move away from them in future.
