Weird SEO Results - Check This

After months being top of page two for keyword "Britney Spears" with my Britney Spears fansite i decided to change my theme.

I personally coded my new theme so i could get better results. And guess what happened?

I get Page 1 position 4 at Google.co.uk for entire web searches, but dropped more than 1 page in google.com where i used to rank "not so bad".

Also for Britney Spears News my serps have droped 9 positions.

I mean, My site is hosted in the USA, ive always ranked top of page 2 in Usa for that keyword and after the changed i get after the official sites but solo in google.co.uk (even for entire web searches)?

Should i keep this "theme" for a few more days and wait to see if it gets "serp update" at .com also? Is it a good "sign" that i rank top in .co.uk for entire web?

Please share your thoughts. Im desperate =P

    SEO-Friendly Standards-Compliant Layouts

Welcome, and thank you very much for visiting Search Engine Friendly Layouts!

The Search Engine Friendly Layouts website has been created for both the webmaster and the search engine optimization specialist as a means of presenting cross-browser compatible, standards-compliant layouts with clean and functional markup in such a way as to show the content area first.
    SEO Advantages

    * Since the content layer is the first layer, the keywords contained within it will be featured in the most prominent manner possible, as opposed to assigning prominence to menus and other areas of a site.
    * Prominence can also be assigned to other elements, simply by adjusting the order of the code within them. For example, if a menu contained certain keywords and phrases which an SEO wanted to prominently feature, the menu code could be placed above a footer and/or header.

    CSS Advantages

    * Since the web designs are tableless and based on Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), the webmaster will be able to alter the order of the elements in any form or fashion he/she sees fit. By default, the content is presented first in each layout; however, the order of the code within the layout can be rearranged as the webmaster and/or SEO specialist sees fit.
    * Since the content layer is presented first, the user will be able to peruse the individual pages of a website with minimal delay, while the other major sites (as determined by the CSS order) can load around the content layer itself.
    * The order in which other elements are loaded can still be controlled for the maximum user benefit. For example, a menu could be placed as the second major element to ensure that the menu is loaded as quickly as possible, and thereby make it easy for the user to navigate.

    CSS and SEO Advantages

    * Page load time is minimized and ensures that users and search engine spiders can view content as quickly as possble.
    * Decreased likelihood of web design errors leads to increased user satisfaction, as well as an increased likelihood that a search engine spider will correctly index page content.

Did you even read it, in short terms "Page layouts affects seo", "Content position in the code matters", "links structure of your new layout links matters".

Revert back, wait, or make a new one.

I wouldn't go changing it again, Google is in a very up & down state as it is and when you make changes to your site it can take a while for things to settle.

Keep adding content, build some more links and monitor the site for another week or so before deciding if things have gone pear shaped.

Rankings keep improving in .co.uk . Im currently 3rd position. And keep dropping on google.com

The changes were already made 4 days before. Should i keep waiting for .com to update?

I'd wait, also i take it your in the UK?

Even searching from the UK on Google.com it will give you different results then what others in the US see. Go to the proxy Hidemyass.com and punch in Google.com and query your term through that, do you rank better?

I am not in The UK, nor in USa.

I checked all results via proxys and i think i found my problem.

When i was page 2 in .com i was showing 20 news in landing page around (72kb). I was now showing just 12 which made my side jump to 52kb.

Maybe was the page size making me jump in .com to third page? I changed back to 20 news. Lets see if it stays page 1 in UK and NEw Zealand and gets back page 2 in .com

try validating your site on the w3c site, this may be the problem.
also 4th in uk is good, have you seen a change in traffic etc?

the site is fully validated. (just the adverts wont validate).

4th in UK is good. But i get about the same traffic with 4th of UK and Second page on USA.

Like 1300 uniques daily. What i wanted was a mix of both (4th in UK and at least page 2 in USA).

I tried showing back 20 news so page gets 70kb. Maybe it will be there tomorrow :)

Yes this is likely effecting things, only 12 news items means a different amount of keywords and page size.

So did you rank higher when searching from the proxy IP?

    yes. i did check.
In co.uk im still position 4 and same in .co.nz.

Seems like "google.co's" like my new SEO. But .com hates it.

I changed back to the previous page size (showing 20news) to see if it goes better on .com and if its stays nice in .co.uk and .co.nz

Not sure but I think validating a site in W3C do not help much.

    Try to validate Google.com :)
