Alexa Rankings Changed Directories Effected? Blogs Lose Ranks

Today there was a announcement at alexa about their rankings change and most websites which had webmaster related traffic have got a hit and lost their rankings.

Did you find any changes in your website, web blogs & especially directories because they have webmaster traffic?

 

the new modified data just started to show up hours ago for a previous day that already was calculated on alexa yesterday. for that day I would have lost some 20'000 positions according to new data computation.

I think it still is a few days too early to see the exact results of the new computation method for new alexa ranks.

IMO a system similar to G's "urchin" placed on each content page would create a better source of accurate information. or the use of the alexa widgets as a source of traffic data.

 

yes certainly this was the first thing i did every morning to check the alexa ranking of my site but today i checked the same thing and found that blogs were pretty much dumped in the current ranking and as written by alexa previously they were accessing the data from their toolbars and this makes the work more fishy as declared by alexa... the user who has the toolbar installed the sites they visit more were ranking well and others were not

but i think this is a very positive move by alexa as this will give out a clear view of ranking despite of only the some particular users interest this would reflect the larger community.

Yes same here... my site also jumped almost 200K ranking UP and now see the johnchow's ranking he is some thing around 13k same for most of the sites including the DP.

yaa, i find my www.3windex.com changes. Now 75,290 Rank.

 

one of the key factor in previous alexa ranking msitakes was the fact that apparently some virus SW declared alexa toolbar as spyware and thus users blocked the toolbar.

yesterday I checked my last 7 days access_log files - a total of some 110'000 unique visitors - and found ONE single user of an alexa toolbar only. all others contributing to my alexa data apparently have been firefox users with the Alexa Sparky - a tool that leaves no traces in the logs and thus no way to verify the number of users. however I have only some 24-25% firefox users, all others are IE or opera or other browser users.

the current "OTHER" sources alexa uses ....
I know of absolutely NO other sources that KNOW precisely HOW MUCH traffic I have, except my own access_log.

hence whatever alexa is using can be but ANOTHER guess.

Looks like a reality check. These new rankings seem a bit more believable.

 

i was at 309000 now i am at 359000 so i consider it a little drop compare to other sites

 

http://www.web-directories.ws has dropped from 48k to 83k. I agree that these new numbers seem reasonable.

 

I did benefit in some places with Alexa. But you seem to have benefited a lot amit.

The new system seem a bit genuine for now, but alexa is always down these days. Lets see till how much time do they live upto their promise of better ranking.

 

They cannot ever be perfect because they track using 3rd part source and if everyone adds some tracking code then it would be able to track the perfect ranks.

 

My rankings went down as well, it was a good update for me too

 

I really find Alexa to vary in the their value of the sites, one week a site is up and showing stats for a the actual lifespan then it stats N/A for stats the next week

must go down a lot

 

it appears that alexa still re-processing all data/ranking
after an initial drop of about 20'000 ranks online on alexa site for a half day ( for a day already processed before using old procedure ) - the data all are again new now and some 5000 ranks better than originally in the new 3 months average rank.

may be that up and down may continue another few days until all data reprocessed

 

My blog had the same traffic yesterday too and after having a rank of 65k yesterday now it shows 33,380 alexa rank which seems to be more appropriate since the traffic is slowly gaining up and alexa rank should not have increase that much, though the new rankings now seem to be better.

Hey Amit, thanks for the update. I am very happy as my Alexa ranking jumped straight from 97K to 52K yesterday. So I am very happy. Also It is great that Alexa made such a move and gave up the reliance on the alexa toolbar installs.
