I want your suggestions about hosting a PHP proxy script on a VPS. Should I host it on VPS or not? Will it have a negative effect on server?

i would say not to host a proxy on a VPS because of cpu/resource usage
you probably could host host it for q while until traffic picks up, and once it does, you will need a dedicated server

It means that it should be hosted on a dedicated server.

Hosting 5 phpproxy sites on a 384MB server, no problem at all.

    1 is getting 2200 uniques a day

Rest is 200+ uniques for each,

I can proof that I am not lying :-D

proxies eat up resources like a fat kid eats hot dogs. get that thing on a dedicated if you can afford it. otherwise find someone on DP who will host it on their dedicated for a monthly price.

    I didn't say I have 2200 users online at a time :-D

They use the PHProxy thing like everyone does :-D, server is fine, during peak hours, might experience a little slowness, not super slow :-D

    Thanks for your replies.

They don't use much disk space. It's mostly RAM and CPU that they need.

Not all VPS are alike as they have different plans. You might want to find out from Lordy which web host he uses.

Also before you sign up, check with the web host if they allow hosting of Proxy Sites. From what I understand, not every host is happy about hosting such sites because of the issues which may be attached to it.

As for space, it depends on the site of the script and probably just how much space you want to allocate as cache. All depends on what script you use.

It means 10 gigs space is enough for any amount of visitors.
