So I was searching in Google, checking on how I rank with some obscure keyphrases. I came across the phrase "california prime rate 2007" in my logs, and decided to search. The following webpage: davidpellegrino.com/primerate.htm ranks #8 in Google, even though the owner of the site copied the content of that page directly from the homepage of my Prime Rate website here. I just can't believe that this sort of blatant and egregious copy & paste content theft still goes on in 2007. No courtesy link back to my site or anything. Bad news. Then again, why not copy & paste? it seems that Google rewards the practice of content theft. I can't find my site anywhere for the above-referenced search (I saw the search phrase in my logs because the traffic was delivered to my site via AdWords), yet Mr. David Pellegrino's site rank #8. Thanks, Big G. Thanks for that. Part of the reason I'm posting here is in case the site owner is a member of DP. If so, send me a PM and explain. I have already sent the site owner an email, but from my past experience, I know that such emails are most often ignored by the offending party. I really believed Google was a lot more sophisticated than that. I'm also emailing Google about this tomorrow. I'll post again if they respond.
If someone copies content and modifies it little bit and then buys some links from PR5 and above , he will definitely rank better in google when I search interview question, a ten years old interview article from CNN ranks pretty high in google.
The content wasn't modified in any way. It's a desperado copy & dump job. Whoever stole the content was just too lazy to make even minor changes. I guess I was just naive to think that Big G was better than that. At least I can download Mr. David Pellegrino's picture from the offending webpage, and make it into a nice dart board. Yep.
You might want to consider incorporating Copyscape into your pages. At least that way people will know that you're going to know the instant they copy your site.
Never thought I'd need to use the CopyScape service, but I guess it's time to give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion. AmCy
You may want to file a complaint. Please follow the following document: http://www.google.com/dmca.html
I found the same thing this morning: Dumb Bastard's Site: http://www.seancoreyentertainment.com/Disc Jockey.htm My Site: http://www.byrequest.dj/25532.html I use copyscape (http://www.copyscape.com) to find infringers, but I found this guy through Google's improved backlink reporter in Webmaster Tools (https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/siteoverview). Ikj gives some good advice. Even if the webmaster refuses to take down your copyrighted information, you can still get Google to quit displaying it.
Tim...this guy seems really lazy...he did dump whole of the text...instead of legal action...i suggest that u talk directly to owner of the site
Yeah, if you notice, he still has links pointing to my pages. VERY lazy. I always talk to the site owner first. DJ's are usually not the most web-saavy individuals, so I give them a week or two (depending on how nice they seem) to fix their site. Only once have I had to resort to filing an official DMCA notice with a webhost (full moon karaoke), and that was simply because the guy didn't bother to respond to emails and had no contact information on his site.
Definitely use copyscape i signed up last month and have over 400 pages they check weekly and send you a report. Youll find most the people you email remove the content and just copy from someone else
I find it curious that the offending party chose to copy from me instead of Wikipedia. I'll be monitoring the offending site to see what the site owner replaces the stolen content with.
I am sorry this person is doing this to you. I hope things work well for you in reporting him as well. As far as http://www.copyscape.com great tool. And yes google will stop indexing and displaying the guys site. If anything he can also lose his PR as well. I hope he does.
No need to report him. He has already responded to my email, and has updated the offending webpage with content from Wikipedia. Good move on his part AmCy
yup...sane discussion...given the monster no of sites on internet...at sme point few sites will look same what say?
