I have searched the forum for a list of ways to market a site. I know I have seen one some weeks ago here at the forums, but I don't remember where. I have used the search function, but it is worthless. Witch ways is there except of theese?

Write and submit articles. Forum signatures also help greatly in promoting your site :)

You mean pressrelease? Or do you mean writing an article about the photohost from another site and submit it to an articles database?

I belive pressreleases is not worth it.

You should go on forums and discreetly talk about your image host.
There is also away to go to. Blog websites as for me. Blogg.se and make some comments on their articles. Like "your images are slow, maybe you should try blabla.com" :)

    Hope it works out!

If it's an image host, start hosting a whole bunch of images yourself and
then post them to heavily trafficked forums. Once people see how great
your host is, they'll start using it.

Artcles on image hosting could also talk about how these things work, precautions to take while using these, review of some services etc.

Also you could add paid advertising also to your list(or are you looking for only free marketing)

    Kalle,

You might find this method objectionable but before you pass judgment please remember that you asked and I just happened to have assisted a client of mine in researching good promotional methods for launching this type of site not too long ago.

What we found is that the "pornographic picture sharing" community has one of the largest base of users for this type of offering. Another community high on the list was traders of "celebrity candids." This might be a better route if you don't want nudie photos all over your service (although unless you make it against the rules you will likely be over run with them when your service takes off.)

So as mentioned above you need to find communities that will utilize the service, target their high traffic forums where they share the photos, and then join in the discussion and post some photos hosted on your service. You will start adding users pretty rapidly because these types of services are constantly coming and going so the users are always looking for new places to host their pictures.

I just pulled up my notes and one of the sites you can check out to see just how popular the "celebrity candid" trader forums can be is forum(dot)phun(dot)org. It is 8:21am Sunday morning and I just pulled up that page and it is showing 2363 active users!

So there are two recommended niches for you to target. Of course there are many clean type sites to target but as you can probably understand I have a client at this time that would prefer that I don't share everything that he paid for here for free.

But, I do have one last tip for you. If you decide to promote your service by this "show and tell" style method you can maximize your efforts by outsourcing some of the forum and picture posting. Try elance.com to find some people to add to your posting army.

    Good Luck,
    Troy

A video at youtube explaining your services may also be a nice idea.
