Please review my website for Female Celebrity Pictures (FreshDames.com) and make comments, suggestions, etc. Thanks!
The first thing that catches my eye is the adsense at the top. You need more graphics and plus get rid of that Dreamweaver CSS template. You need to make the site a little more Hollywood. I am assuming this is what you are trying to represent. Plus I would move the adsense down the side of the homepage and not at the top, it seems to take away from what you truly want the site visitor to see, unless I am wrong. IMHO
Yes one other thing I have noticed is that some of the links open a new window, you might want to get rid of that. Other than that the information is ok and is enough to keep the attention of your visitors.
I agree with pretty much everything Wayne has just said. The look of the site should be adapted to the industry. You have some cool pics though, just present it all better and don't make the adsense "too obvious". If you come up with cool stuff, your site will get a lot of visitors to revisit and talk about it. Create a momentum and then keep it going. cheers. P.S. from your site
More great points and rationale for them - great; thanks!! Is the Adsense on http://www.freshdames.com/babepics.htm better, or more "subtle". I like the points about making it "not so obvious" but I was trying to keep it "above the fold" - maybe too far above? Also, I agree with changing the targets to "parent" and not "blank" to open in a new window - I'm going through tweaking those now. Just yesterday, I launched Female Pics Discussion Forum hoping to capitalize on my traffic and keep the momentum going - good idea?
I do like it much better. But I need to say this (even though you may not want to hear it): Please consider using vBulletin as a forum
Try to keep the design consistent, and the picture gallery pages look pretty stale with just one picture on the page with a plain white background and black text. Try to implement design on it.
Yes, DW is a good/bad bundle of joy/pain in the ... I love that it creates web photo albums with no effort for a novice (and lazy) person, but the layout has lots to be desired. I've slowly and inconsistently gone through some and tried to "spruce" up a bit; very good points honey - thanks!
Yummy, But those blinking tags are distracting .. i'm trying to look at katie holmes here ... don't disturb!
You know that Goolge reads the left, middle, then right columns. Your menu is on the right side. I have rarely seen that position. The menu is a chance to get in lots of keywords upfront. Go to a free tool checker that shows how Google 'sees' your page.
I honestly don't remember hearing that - worth researching and giving credence to though; thanks. I actually switch depending on the page between left and right menus, some pages even have a 3 column layout, left menu, rights news tidbits for example. I swith up to try to not look so template-like and add a little freshness, but I don't know that it really works as intended. This is my first website that I began abou 14 months ago as my learning sandbox - a fun learning experience too Thanks for the comments and heads up! w®m
I like the design, subject and content but the craziest thing happens on the Katie Holmes page: all the links (and I mean all) are blinking. Btw, I am using Firefox 1.0.4.
I was playing with my CSS a while back, I may have done something stupid - I'll take a look, although I don't see the blinking, but I'm also using IE. Thanks for the headsup - could be turnoff - is it aggravating?
Well, my attention was mostly focused on the pics but the blinking gets annoying after a while. It's weird because the links only blink in the Katie Holmes section. I took a look at the CSS (for this page the CSS is here: http://www.freshdames.com/katie_holmes/2col_leftNav.css) and guess what I found: a:link, a:visited, a:hover { color: #006699; text-decoration: blink; } a:hover { text-decoration: underline blink; } Code (markup): Just remove the "blink" part and it will be ok.
I felt like I was lost in a forest of beautiful long legged women and unable to find my way back to my cottage! (ie - I really couldn't get back to the home page or find my bearings very easily on the site)
great. Finally, a website I'd check out on my own. Good, very fast, a little chaste, but that's the thrust of it. I would recomend getting bigger pictures when you click on them.
I'd agree with Rhino. I had a hard time finding anything. I know that is what you are kind of going for though. It's pretty hard to mess up a site that has tons of hot celebrity pictures though. I think I'm probably more anal than you, so I set my celebrity site up with a little more structure. Celebrity Pictures. Best of luck to you.
I killed the blinking links - thanks for the heads up. I am toying with the idea of adding a "drop down" navigation to the pages. If this goes over well (HINT - please have a look - http://freshdames.com) would it help the getting lost issue in the pages to incorporate throughout? Thanks for all the help thus far!! w®m
