http://www.seomoz.org/blogdetail.php?ID=1648 The latest SEO Contest finally made Jim Whales do it again
apparently all wikipedia links are now nofollow here's some discussion about it on wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipe...world_championship_--_expect_a_spam_onslaught. and lots of blogs are talking about this
that's what I think too, I think Jimbo Wales sees it as a way to make wikipedia even bigger, hopes that will be the end result. If it were a community vote, I'd think otherwise.
Hi, this is just to let you all know that wikipedia now has rel-no-follow links on all external links. So links on wikipedia no longer pass page rank or page-trust. Spamming wikipedia now only makes sense for the visitors. Source: http://www.seroundtable.com/archives/007250.html Discussed at: http://www.cre8asiteforums.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=45325
This is obviously huge. One major website, that ranks for just about any informational query, and gets links from all over the place - just did not count towards SEO anymore AT ALL. A wikipedia link is now comparable to putting yourself out there with google adwords: it puts your brand in front of people, and that can indirectly lead to visitors, if done well.
But you must remember, real people will still click the links at Wikipedia, and isn't that more important than PR? After all, real visitors to your Website make you real money.
I would still try to get a link on Wikipedia even though I may no longer get a PR boost. I received a decent amount of visitors from the one I had for several months. Now if I could only figure out a way to keep my link from being taken down ...
I agree its a good idea, but I still question the motivation behind it, there are still links to external websites without nofollow like "Wikia"........ Hmm wonder who owns that......
Best thing they could do, I agree they should have done it before. Just today I saw one page that had a genuine link to my (travel) site now also had various estate agents and other stuff added. Well done to them - good decision!
