1) You do not need too many links to get a higher PR for your page. One or two can do it. You don't need any Google PageRank tables like http://www.kenkai.com/google-pagerank-table.htm to calculate the backlinks that you need simple proof (or exception to the rule) www. reddevil.gr (please keep unlinked its a good study case) Site is just a home page that states the site its under development and all it contains is an image and I bet no SEO whatsoever was done on it. stats: PR5 discovered by archive.org on 25 May 2006 domain Creation Date:13-12-2005 (check www. papaki.gr/whois.aspx) Backlinks: 1 PR3 and 1 PR5 (company that created the site) 2) Your outbound links can be more than 100 and still not affect your PR I know google webmaster guidelines state that you should keep links on the pages to a reasonable number fewer than 100 (outbound then is less then that) but it does not really affect (your page at least) if you do. simple proof (or exception to the rule) milliondollarhomepage.com/ PR6 Inbound links:9 Outbound links:3014 milliondollarhomepage.com/pixellist.php PR5 Inbound links:16 Outbound links:3015 --- I am not claiming that this is the rule and that this disproves people that are claiming the opposite, just take it as exception to the "rules" and that SEO and backlinking is not an exact science. Some people probably already know this, I am a newbie and I wanted proof, and since I found it, I wanted to share.
But MDHP has thousands of inbound links, including links from some of the most highly respected sites on the Web. This would be far out-weigh any negative effect of it's outbound links. You have to look at the "whole" picture.
Well I am not providing this as a proof of concept, its more of an exception to the belief that you cannot have too many outbound links.
@thedark try backlinks from yahoo, msn, altavista, they only show the same 2 links, do you think Google has some that it does not show us ?! @slapmatt you are right that MDHP is a pretty unique case, because of the publicity it got, but in terms of content it is below average, and it could very well loose its PR with its 3000 outbound links (if the theory of "too many outbound links" was true) right? Remember I am not trying to disprove this theory alltogether but I am trying to show that there are exceptions. I will try to find another case where this happens though
google doenst show accurate links for a site. I find Yahoo to do the best job and keeping the list up to date.
Chios you have done a very good work but you can get good PR if your link is the only one link on that page
well it does not have to be that way PR5 link --> reddevil.gr has altogether 13 outbound links (not one) and reddevil.gr is a PR5 (no loss in PR)
UPDATE: 4 links altogether to the domain www. reddevil . gr as reported by yahoo and msn 2 PR5 from same domain, 1 PR3 and 1 PR0 and the page gets a PR5 without having any content in it just an image....
I am not trying to say otherwise @!Ask! and @duilen, I am just trying to understand things myself and share them along the way. (I had the feeling that there was a lot of fuss about PR around here)
You could just be demonstrating that PR is random, I agree with 'ask' PR is worthless. I could also find loads of sites with odd PR values but PR doesn't mean anything so I don't think it's worthy of study.
Some PR values look really random, also PR can give you link popularity power but not quality, if they are trust links and if they related to the site.
@!ask! how do you explain the text link brokers that would sell links based on PR alone are they scam ? should we avoid them ?
Has to deal a ton with how long the links been there also. If I make a site with 1 backlink on a PR9 page, in time that site will be PR8. May take a few years but it will hapen.
I don’t call “text link brokers†a scam, but I wouldn’t recommend their services normally because of high prices. PR is just a measure, is like I have a car with 150 horse power, but what that tells me about the velocity the car will go, how much will take it to reach 100km/h, how much liters will spend, if it’s comfortable. As in a car you have to analyze a site other variables to get the total picture. I normally go to 1-3 page of backlinks in yahoo and analyze it link by link.
Might have used link: in google or linkdomain in yahoo. He is right when he says that http://www.reddevil.gr has only three inbound links . I checked it in yahoo .. Intresting stuff
