$200 Famous Contest - 1 week Web Design: HeliBlog *

Hey Guys!

It's time again for a Famous contest!

This time we have bumped up the prize to $200!

TL;DR: This contest is for a single PSD homepage design. Refer to the WEBSITE DETAILS section for specifics. You have 1 week to submit entries via this post or via PM. Winner gets $200 via PayPal. Please refer to the more detailed sections below for specifics:


ABOUT ME:
I have been contests here on DP for over two years. I have hosted dozens of contests (usually about once or twice a month). I always comment on every design, announce a winner, and I always pay.

WEBSITE DETAILS:
This design design should be similar to Uncrate. The website will be a blog about helicopters. It should feature advertisement spots. Go to this link to see the name and URL of the website: http://preview.tinyurl.com/48wftf5

CONTEST DETAILS:
1. Submit web design entries for 1 week from the time stamp on this post. Revisions on entries can be made.
2. Posts via PM will be allowed, but I will then post them here.
3. I will comment on every single design as I always do.
4. Once time is up, I will announce the winner.
5. Winner provides .PSD (or .XCF for GIMP users) file and fonts used. I will send $200 via PayPal and give honest iTrader.

RULES:
By submitting an entry, you agree to the following:
1. You must create the designs yourself. No templates. You must not use any images you do not have the right to use (stock photo is okay if you have or will pay for it).
2. If you use watermarks, it must say "Sample" (for consistency). Do not let watermarks affect your design. Alternatively: Send your non-watermarked entry via PM and post the watermaked version here.
3. You agree to let me use a representation of your design. If you do not win, you keep all rights and can even sell your design to someone else. However, you must remove anything that identifies this company specifically (e.g., company name, logo, pictures from this contest, etc.).
4. By accepting the winnings, winner agrees to transfer me full rights to that design and you agree that you will not use the winning design for anything else.

The deadline will be enforced as long as there are at least five entries.

Great to see many of you submitting entries!

The website is still in its initial stages so I'm not sure at this moment. Let's start with: Home, About, Contact, and anything else you think is relevant. If unsure, use Lorem ipsum text for the others.

I like the overall layout. Also, love how you left spaces open for adverts! Please everyone else also do this. I would like to see much less text and much more pictures. At least two to three blog entries with pictures would be nice so I can properly judge what the final website will look like (I suggest using different pictures and different lorem ipsum text so it looks like different entries). The website will be picture heavy like this.

Colour: I am looking to stay away from the vibrant and bright colours like the light blue in the above entry. I love it when people are creative and come up with interesting combinations but here is a general guideline for colour use: Use very simple, non-vibrant colours to create a simple website design. I really want the main focus of the website to be the pictures on the blog entries (one picture per entry). If in doubt use black and white.

Just an FYI to everyone: The website will be 100% blog; it will not sell its own services. Think of it exactly as Uncrate.

Hey guys,

Just a little over 4 days left...

I have seen many entries here and some initial mock-ups through PM. I have not had the time to comment on each entry individually but definitely will in the next few days or before then!

Here are some general comments:

Many entries took what I said about this website being a blog a little too far with too much complexities. The website should be just like Uncrate.com in its simplicity. The main focus should be the pictures in the posts (one picture per post). There should be a very simple menu and logo at the top that is not too distracting as well as a spot for ads either in the sidebar or elsewhere. I really want to see something creative but stick to the simplicity rule

Love some of the entries I have seen so far and cannot wait to comment some more.

Contest Update:

During the next day I will be talking with the website owner to get his feedback on the designs submitted so far. I will post all comments here along with any entries I have already received via PM. If you sent an entry via PM and I have not acknowledged it, please send it again or post it to the contest to make sure I get it
