Read http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1761824 We have to withdraw funds and we cant use the funds to buy anything too
One thing did you noticed? This mail showing Consumer Tip at bottom while normal PayPal mail come with this word Consumer advisory
Also few more issues are that the bullets and wordings have space in between and on the main site the terms and conditions work is linked.. looks like someone copy paste that part..dunno if its real or not coz paypal updates such things on blogs to
Ahhhh... I just try to Viewing Full Header of that mail and i got below given Anything serious guys ?? DON.
hey guys I DID NOT get this mail (my PP id is @gmail).... any chance this is a phishing attempt and was sent only to yahoo / hotmail? (I sincerely hope so )
Is your a/c personal or premier/business? i think these mails sending out to only premier/business a/c holders
No it has not been sent only to premier/ business accounts. Many people claim that they haven't got the emails but their friends have. This is definitely a phishing email and no doubt about it. Moreover, why would paypal send an email to only few members and not the entire country. Also, paypal does not have an email address as . It is always or . Someone out there is actually taking advantage of the situation. Picture this, if some members have not read this forum and then want to take out their money as fast as possible from their paypal accounts, becos of this new rule, then there might be some nasty and bigger rogues out there who would offer such services for a minimum price, just like xoom. Now when such members get paid once or twice, they will try to rope in more people. Finally those rogues get hold of a huge sum of money, say a million dollars and Whoosh!!!. All money's gone, then whom will you blame? So please be careful and do not get into such scams. If you have doubts, email their cust service and also, call them if possible. Moreover, spread the message to others and link them to this forum. Please everyone do not panic. If paypal is going to do such a thing, then it would definitely put it on their blog.
@cool PTC .. Thanks for your optimistic approach and concerns and timely warnings.. but I think the mess is greater this time . Refer to sai_510 's comments on thread : http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1762343&page=3
The email has got sent only to yahoo, msn and AOL emails. But Gmail has blocked it as a Phishing attempt. So overall, it is a phishing attempt and is not legit. Please don't believe the cust service reps. On one of the the other threads I read that Cust Service has replied that no such emails were sent by them.
I have gmail PP id and the mail isn't there even in the spam folder .. so it was NOT sent (yet ??) . okay all of us will have to list our ids and see who got the mail and whether the person had gmail id or yahoo/msn/aol MYSELF : GMAIL ID MAIL RECEIVED : NO I know this can be silly - but there is no end to my wishful thinking
if you have your name mentioned in email like "Dear XXXXX", then surely it is a genuine email from paypal. still donno what to believe and what not?hmmm
i just checked my gmail and i was surprised to see the paypal email in spam folder. looks like its fake.
I'm not Indian, but I do have an Indian shared business paypal and I also received that message. It had the account holder's name in it which means it must have been an inside job by one of paypal employees. I called paypal and they said it's fake and that they are investigating this matter.
