Now it is officially declared by Matt Cutts himself. So it means also that we will remove the meta keyword elements since they said that: “BASICALLY none” or “REALLY not at all”.

So forget about all other search engines then?
For the little effort it takes to put in a meta tag, I'll be keeping mine in thanks...

official or not, the meta keywords died years ago right after the search engines evolved from "meta search engine" to full text indexing

I'm quite surprised it is still considered as an important tag

As I said previously, is the time it takes to add them in worth leaving them out?

Some companies pay big money to move up that extra position. What if the meta tag was potentially that one position. You guys sound like you want to throw that potential position in the bin because Matt Cutts says so.

You really think that Matt Cutts is going to share the Google algorythm with you? He would be fired on the spot.

As I said - I'll be keeping Meta tags in thanks....

    [edit]
I am not saying that Meta tags are all that important. But, all SEO aspects combined add up to give the edge over the competitor. This is why half you guys hang around in these forums trying to work out how to be number 1 in the SERP's. But, you want it 'just to happen'. You have to put in the effort and put ALL of your SEO knowledge to good use. Don't leave out one aspect because one guy says its no longer important.

Sorry about the rant. But, I am not a sheep and I am not going to give up good SEO practices on ONE persons say so.

Again, just my opinion. I am not out to upset anyone. :)

Yes, I agree with lonewolff... its really not that much work to put them in and who knows Google might decide to use them in their alogorythms and other search engines do use them for now.

keeping the meta keywords tag should not have any negative effect so keeping them, even just for peace of mind is harmless

This is not news. Google has not done this for YEARS.

However, you use meta tags to focus the bots and also use the meta description to change what is described under your title tag in the search results.

Meta tags are extremely important and useful.

I too believe that we should not stop using the meta tags. Good content is always the key, but good SEO pratices along with the Good content would be helpful for overall SEO in all the search engines

Meta tags is of no use now to Google. But how will the spider know
that this certain site was under of this category? Does the spider
will look on the url of the site or through the description? How will
    they be able to know?

Yes, i was also thinking the same thing before. Because when i used to promote new webpages of my website. It was crawl and rank better in search engines without any META things. So its clear now that there is no space for META's now.

Well, this is not surprise sine meta tag being less and less important. However, it is fine to keep the meta tag since it will never give negative impact to your website. And who know other thousands of search engine are still using it

Well, to me that's ok because keyword meta tags has been used before for spam. And sometimes the keyword meta tags was sometimes useless to put and has no relation to the pages.

the meta keyword is not important thing, but still important when doing on-site SEO.

If you don't believe me, you can remove the meta keyword, and meta description, see how google show your site result when search your keyword on google.com.

Because google robot index the whole site information and check the keyword emphasis of the page, meta keyword will remind google robot to check the keyword weight in your articles. no meta keyword, google robot will check the keyword relevant links and back links to determine the keyword of your site.

you can try it, doing SEO is for fun, enjoy it.

even though google may not consider meta keywords tags, other search engines still may. So as a force of habit I still think it would be better to have them, rather than not have them.
