Registering Trade Mark Domains

    Hi

Was just wondering what people think about buying domains for resale that have potential to be trademarked. Say you were able to buy mcdanalds.com
Obviously a very unlikely one but just as an example.

Do you think this kind of thing is worthwhile or too open to getting sued and something that should be avoided?

Many thanks, looking forward to hearing your thoughts?

    Cheers

Well the simple answer is that you're taking one hell of a risk!. Buying & Selling TM domains is not as profitable as it used to be, there have been so many cases of domainers being taken to court for TM infringement!.

I personally don't think it's worth it, but hey, that's just mu opinion!.:)

    Thanks for your reply.
Yes, that's what I'm starting to think too, but thought it would be a good to canvass other people's opinions and see what they think and are doing, so appreciate your thoughts.

    All the best

Maybe you can have a try since the cost of the domain is not very high. Trying to invest on the domain name is a good idea. But it may need you some insight into the market and the domain itself. So think carefully before do it.

You can if you ask the mark owners permission (in writing) i.e. if you are an affiliate. I speak from experience, It is not just the trademark holders it is the legal companies that have set themselves up looking for these infringments to make money out of you that you need concern yourself with - my advise - its not worth taking the risk in any way shape or form, there is enough business in the world that offer much less risk - go for generic/market specific or niche market domains

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts!
Sounds like a real minefield and as dnswasp says, perhaps there is enough to go round with having to risk anything.
    Cheers
