I think that is totally inaccurate. Well, some of its true. Maybe I should blog it instead of trying to explain it on a forum though. Food for thought.

Dofollow social bookmarking sites. And they can be valuable deep links.

I am also a longtime, satisfied submitter to directories. I've probably submitted to well over a thousand of them.

Blogs are never a bad idea as long as the blog is good. :)

IMHO it's very useful to have as many backlinks as possible, and every directory helps. But doesn't do much where traffic is concerned.

It will if the directory is heavily targeted to a certain industry. The links contained will be worth a lot in the long term.

Directories will help you gain some pr, and if your site is new they will also help to get it indexed. So yes, they are effective.

    Good advice.

Stay away from directories that have a domain name that were never intended for a directory.

Mods should start and give infractions when people start a thread that’s been repeated a million times, make that a ban.

I feel a guide coming on “How to use the search feature on a forum.

Sorry if my post seems harsh but I can see where this is going.

    Thanks Brian

Brian: There is some merit in what you are saying. But don't you think most of the times forums are active because more people keen joining and asking same / similar questions :)

I would really prefer if people do some search and not ask the same questions but a ban for that would be a little too much :)

I find the above reason for using directories very disturbing.

Go Here and read Googles Webmaster Guidleines under where it says "When your Site is Ready"

    It says

Submit your site to relevant directories such as the Open Directory Project and Yahoo!, as well as to other industry-specific expert sites.

So YES! Directories Clearly do help.

I will have to say this is false. 6 Weeks Ago I took on a SEO project for a rather large company. Using nothing more then Directory submissions The website has gone from about 4 pages deep in google to a to a top 10 first page result.

I also wanted to point out the the company has tons of competition and typing in the keyword brings up 288,000 results.

These are just my results, but results with nothing more than directory submissions.

I have to agree sliponajimmy as I have seen the same positive results on sites using only directory submissions.
