I wouldn't be doing my job if I never pointed you to phpLynx It has a bucket load of features you'd expect to find in a paid script, I'm sure there are lots of others out there too many to mention.

Never saw that part. You'd be hard pressed to find any that aren't copyrighted, in fact they are almost guaranteed to be copyright protected as a matter of process. Its only if the script writers/owners say they forgo copyright status that this would happen. good luck on your quest.

Well then, what about ones that the copyright isnt so obvious and doesnt ruin the directories look and appeal...

You can always make the copyright notices discrete using a bit of css tweaking. Don't you think its only fair though to at least accredit the hard work, time, effort and money put in by the developers?

An0n pointed you to one, its a great starting point, but that's just what it is, a starting point. Again, good luck.

I have no problem crediting the creators of the script, but not to the extent that it takes away from the template or aesthetics of the directory...

I don't think there is one script that asks you to do that, one or two text links will never take away from the look of a site. The problem with some people is they want the penny and the bun.

As I said, with most scripts including the one I promote, you can all but make it as discreet as needs be.

    Hi there,

Whether or not they have the copyright symbol, they are still copyrighted, so there is no getting away from that legal issue. In any case, almost every site that has decent content will have notification of copyright on it. Even great pieces of art have the artist signature on them. I don't think there is any issue of aesthetics at all. It is a way for an owner to claim origin of work, and has been around for centuries on almost everything you can buy.

One thing that helps me decide on a script, because i know your already aware of various scripts now is the userbase, i personally like the feeling of hundreds of folk knowing a little about what you may be using, so that when you need help, be it with fixing something, getting a little something extra coded or whatever, you can usually find someone who knows what they are doing to help you.

I recomment phpLD 2 as a free one. But better spend at least 25$ for the license. You will see that it worth :)

Not bad, a bit pricey for my liking but when we go open within the next week or so (fingers and toes crossed) at least it gives us a ball park figure to play with.

I did see that our free version already has at least 90% of what their 'Premium' and 'Business' versions due out have.

To be truthful the only advantage this script has over phpLynx at the moment is the opensource which you know we're soon going to remedy.

Thanks anyway an0n, I missed that one. :)

Have you setup a directory before?

If not then wouldn't writing about it so soon be similar to all the people who setup money making blogs when they dont know how to make money themselves yet.
