ok i apologize up front for my ignorance - what what do you folks mean by "coop" or "co op"? and i care a great deal about PR BTW.
I use to care about PR at one time but I have learn that high PR doesnt mean high rankings. I had a PR 7 real estate site at one time,( Not many of those around for real estate ) that site did not rank high. My opinion now is that PR is nice but I am a firm believer that Google is going to make a transition over to Trustrank. Once this happens what will PR mean. I am no expert like some of you but it only makes sense to me since Google is trying to combat link buying and selling that when our next really big update hits PR will be dead and long live TR.
my site has just gone up to a 3 from 0 so how come i appear on page 2 of google when i did nt before the update erm id say it is important.
It is something Google has spoke of in their patient that measures the trust in Google of sites that link to you. Each site will be issued a trust factor, links coming from sites that have less trust will result in less weight those links will give you, hense highly trusted sites will give more weight.
Here we go again ... Your SERPs results are calculated continuously as well as PR because PR is part of your SERPS... so if you think this "public" PR update has given you better serps .... STOP smoking your mom's aloe plants!
I care, because others do. When I initially started out, it was really tough even getting one person to link to my site 'cos it didn't have any PR. But now, I get so many recip link exchange requests that I have to spend some time each day going through them. So, I think Google PR matters overall .... because a high PR suggests that hard work has gone into the website. For example, if someone has a website that's been hosted for 2 yrs (say) and has a PR2 I probably won't exchange links with them or link to them, as it seems to suggest laziness on the part of the webmaster.
Las Vegas Homes ... do you think "trustrank" is viable? To me its like calling Pagerank by a different name. Then we'll start getting the "oooh oooh when's the next trustrank update?" Personally if Google did what they had to do (concentrate on algo and weed out the crap) and not make any of these types of metrics public then SEOs would concentrate more on original and quality content versus sourcing links from sites with high PR or TR. What are your thoughts? Here's to a TR toobar beside the PR - NOT! Frank
Have you read any part of this thread? Ohh my goodness! For discussion sake, a PR0 site today may be a PR8 site tomorrow!!! Wakey Wakey! I've seen one site .... owned by a friend of mine ... go to PR7 in less than a month with virtually no outbound links (a dozen if) ... all he did was rally his friends and acquaintances to link to him. Does this make his site more valuable than mine or yours? Does sending out ONE email make him less lazy than the poor little Joe working 8 hours a day on his site to only get a PR2?
I think dfsweb is partly right. Many people look at the toolbar PR when link exchanging, which kinda makes you care. Many people who see a PR0 site determine that the site can't be more than 3 months old (the average period between PR updates), so they'll "pass". Oh and the fact that a PR0 link on the main page of a PR0 site is better than a link from a PR5 site on a 19th links page.. it's kinda the same. The 19th page on the PR5 site is PR0 also, so for Google, it's just another PR0 link (of course, the PR0 site link is more important traffic-wise, since it will prolly bring you more traffic)
I think it's exactly the pagerank definition using slightly different words, trust = importance, weight = votes
That's correct, a PR0 today might be a PR8 tomorrow BUT the guy who's been sitting on his A** for 2 yrs and has only managed to get to PR2 is either really lazy or not proactive enough, i.e. the fact that he hasn't promoted his site well enough until now probably means that he won't do so in the future either. All I'm saying is that if I had to deal with a web owner, I would probably be more comfortable dealing with someone who has a high PR as I know that he/she is definitely putting some sort of effort into promoting their site. The "effort" could be bugging their friends to link to them, working hard on link exchanges, submitting to directories (getting links from DMOZ etc.) or even buying links. Whatever it might be, the person as spent considerable time and effort to get to a high PR. A PR8 is not easy to achieve by any standard, especially without buying links and anyone who does it has my attention and respect!
