How many believe that we are living in a bigbrother society(the state sees what you are doing)? If not, when will we turn into a fullscaled, statecontrolled security society?

I believe that the current administration has taken advantage of 9/11 to the point that everything is in the name of National Security. I do not believe many parts of the patriot act are legal. I believe that we are taking an entirely wrong approach at this.

What's there to believe? Just look up in the town centre and smile to the hundreds of camera's.

If the US isn't going towards a big brother society, I don't know what else to call it. I mean, Bush and the NSA are spying on Americans and camera are starting to be put up everywhere.

The US is changing, and not for the better.

Yeah, I feel like that sometimes. It is basically 1984 and Brave New World turning into reality.

I hate it and people should be ready to fight back.

Yeah, and anyone can buy your cell phone records also. Makes you wonder why the government doesn't step in and do anything about it. Yet Bill Gates wants to have people pay for an electronic postage stamp so we can send out emails.

Either that or do you want the US to bcome an Islamic state? Unless you are a terrorist you have nothing to worry about with regards to the patriot act. I myself have not seen any affect of it.

Your post is reflective of typical leftist stupidity.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but are you referring to the domestic to international wiretapping of al qaida suspects? Or where you trying to make it appear that all Americans are being wiretapped?

I suppose it's realistic to think some might want to be sure al qaida gets a fair shake at carrying out a plot. I'll never understand that mentality, but I know it exists. I have a harder time trying to understand the numbers. How do 2000 NSA employees spy on 300 million Americans? With that kind of magic pixie dust, we could stop every crime in America before it ever happens.

They did do something about it.

    http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/2006/02/07/1349851.htm

Several of those that were illegally selling phone records were shut down last week.

That is the dumbest post of today. Benjamin Franklin said that "when Americans trade liberty for security, they only get tyranny." Of course, you probably have never read the works of Benjamin Franklin, have you?

That is typical. Call someone a leftist just because a Republican is in the white house. If it was a democrat you would probably call them a conservative, right?

The patriot act can be used against ANYONE. Anyone can be defined as a terrorist. Under the patriot act, terrorism is defined as any act "which endangers human life."

That would make many Americans terrorists, not just muslim extremist. That includes CHRISTIAN EXTREMISTS.

Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Andrew Jackson, and Thomas Jefferson would roll over in their graves if they knew what is happening to this country. They'd slap the crap out of George W. Bush to. Everything our government is doing right now is alien to what our Constitution says.

The average American is too "dumb downed" to know the history of their own country and their constitution. The NSA spying on Americans is a violation of the fourth amendment of the Constitution, which says Americans "shall not be subjected to unjust searches and seizures, unless by probable cause."

Don't mean to be picky, but have you read the works of Benjamin Franklin? Not sure this would be the best time to be self-loathing on behalf of your country and calling people dumbed down Americans.

    http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Benjamin_Franklin

Here's a real quote from Franklin:

We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.

I know where I hang, tesla. How about you?

So the NSA hires Iraqis and other countries, as noted, and gives them top secret technology to secretely spy on every American? So right now, Achmed in Afghanistan knows I just dropped some friends off at the lake?

I guess spaceships landing at taco bell doesn't sound so far fetched after all. I'll be sure and watch for the upcoming "flying burrito" special!
