Did google PR update yet? How bout now? Now? Hey, I was in the bathroom just now. Did google update? I was drying my hair and thought I heard that google updated. Did it? This theatrical post was inspired by the Cable Guy. Thank you. Good night and good luck.
Ah boo hoo. Some newbie gave me a red mark for my post. My whole day is ruined now. Well, back to checking Google PR. Off to play in the sand.
how old does your site have to be for it to get pagerank? Just wondering because I just started a site today, and IF the update was tomorrow, would it all be possible to get some green in the toolbar? I did some backlinking for it on my network of sites... FYI, last update one of my sites was 14 days old and achieved a PR4...
O yeah, that would be nice. Do you really think the update has started or are you just posting to post? Let me know.
Your site is indexed if you search for your domain name. However you may be sandboxed. BTW, I talked with big daddy last nite, he said there'll no pr update this year
Google is far more selective on backlinks. MSN takes anything, Yahoo can be a little more selective. Google wants permanent backlinks from relevant sites. Ranking well on MSN and Yahoo can sometimes mean it will be hard to rank well with Google because their "SEO optimization filter" is a lot more sensative - especially keyword density and gaining backlinks. What ranks you well with MSN can been seen as trying too hard with google and result in not ranking well. I have a lot of sites and some rank #1 in google and others with Yahoo and MSN, but only one site has consistenly ranked #1 in all three. It would be a lot easier to get in the top 10 if you had one site optimized for google and another for yahoo and msn. It takes a lot more work to get a top ranking in google because everyone is targeting them. It just takes time to build relevant backlinks - and a lot of them. Look at the top 10 ranking sites for you keyword in google and see how many relevant backlinks google is showing compared to what google shows for your site. Many times that will tell you what you need to do. A toolbar PR update is always a look at the past. Google updates their internal PR 2-3 times a month, so by the time the toolbar updates, everything is already factored in and it's unusual to see any significant change in rankings unless they time it with an algorithim change- which isn't likely.
Actually, it's name has changed form Big Daddy to Big Mommy so that is the reason why someone might not notice it
Or when Google screws the pooch on a PR update... like they did on the last one: http://www.netmidwest.com/cat10-2.html - PR6 http://www.netmidwest.com/ - PR5 (Note: differences in d/c's - some may not show the current PR) I have seen other sites with similar problems. I thought we would see a correction before the next true update. Also of note, I have seen no change on the Google Directory.
This is not uncommon Netmid http://www.lamit.ro/two-way-satellite-internet-services.htm - PR6 http://www.lamit.ro - PR5 It's just a matter of how many backlinks (and their PR) a page has. After 2 updates, usually the index gets to the same pr as the other highr PR pages (if those pages link to index).
Before this happened, there were no external backlinks to cat10-2.html. Others with similar problems are the same. I discounted any I could find with external links to the page in question. Afterwords, I have posted the url, mentioned the problem here maybe 3 times now. Google directory was showing that I should get a PR7... with the rounding of the number, it is different, so PR6 was within reason. Everytime I do follow a domain through the update, it has been within 1. (With the exception of 302 redirect hijacks, of course. They get PR0'd.) Until the last one, that is. I ended up with a 5. Something went wrong... My theory is that they stopped the calculations short. A few more iterations, I think that PR6 would have been attributed to the main page. That or something is seriously broken, and it is taking time to fix and test...
I checked current links to cat10-2.html, on Y, M and G. Indeed it seems the current backlinks could under no circumstance give you a PR6. Something must've been screwed up i guess
OK, I see your point I was thinking of important in the sense of someone saying "my site is PR7". It's (usually) the index page that is important in that context (important in that this is the page they mean, not that it is of itself the reason for the PR). However, as you say, if we're talking income, "important" might be somewhere else. I only run one link unit ad at the bottom of /index.html, so I'm pretty sure very little of my revenue comes from that. It's a PR5 or PR6 (depending on Google's mood) but my income comes from thousands of other pages, PR4 and on down. The "important" pages are of course the PR4's because those are where the money comes from.
3 of the DCs are showing future PR of 5 from 1 currently. Hope this is going to be the new value. I've noticed that there have been some big improvements on google serps over the last 48 hours for my site on some highly competitive key words. allinanchor/allinurl are showing top 5 positions. Hopefully when all this settles down the site should jump up from page 6 to page 1
The update is coming very soon. Google is crawling my sites like crazy... This usually happens pre-update. So get ready... should see something within a week.... My guess is SuperBowl Sunday....
My new websites seem to take 1-2 months to get involved in the live google side of things. One site that I started on Dec 28th (I think), is now showing up in google results and the pages are all indexed. I guess when PR does indeed update, I can see which predictor came closest. I used a few of them and got 4,5 and 6. Should be at least a 1.
