    I agree. I want to know what specifically you guys think need to be fixed and how it should be fixed. I see lots of complaints and no solutions. Give me some solutions and we can see if they can be implimented.

    I'm sorry, but what corruption there is, simply is not as rampant as you think. But, removing what corruption is there is not only acceptable, but but very desirable for many many editors.

    Before we even start, let me say that don't think that I am stupid and I believe that there is a will to change in DMOZ. I am simply posting this to take away the excuse, that fixing these problems in some way should be difficult.

    You have already admitted that DMOZ is in doorway page business which obviously opens the door to editors corruption and the quality of these door way pages will be very suspect also because these content is provided to thousands of affiliates.

    First take out DMOZ out of doorway page business by removing all such pages. Contact the big porn providers such as playboy, hustler, penthouse,... and inform them that DMOZ is going to list all their sites and they can send you the links to the sites that they want to list in DMOZ, under condition that the entry page of each site must contain unique content for that page. Unlike affiliates, the big porn producer will have no difficulty to supply DMOZ with unique content. Let's imagine that there is 100 big producers and there will be may be 40 different category such as heterosexual, group sex, gay,... This means that you will have 4000 quality links that is provided to DMOZ electronically and can be listed in directory without any editors involvement or very little involvement to check the titles and descriptions.
    Each site will be listed only once under it's own category. You can ask such providers that the link they provide should not have any pop-ups or too much advertisement or their company will be removed from trusted suppliers.
    They can also update DMOZ with information every month about their new sites or sites that disappeared. Editors can not add anything to directory and any new applicants must prove that it is original content provider and not an affiliate, in order to be accepted as trusted source. I am sure big companies will accept any condition that DMOZ has, in order to be accepted.

    Now you have provided the end user with a unique and quality porn without being worried that the whole DMOZ is just a tool being used in editors scams. Your users will be much happier also to find the site that they are looking for at once instead of through many affiliate doorway pages and tens of pop-ups. ;)

    Here is the first suggestion, how many more do you need?

    When people start getting arrested and put on TV you will see some quick action....

    You guys know that AOL has no choice other than taking any offensive listings down at this point so why keep fighting over this?

    Just wait for the official announcement, they will post it here!

    Well that is helping out for sure, DMOZ can do good folks....:eek:

    Adults do crazy stuff, but all of us should be willing to help out when it comes to keeping kids away from this stuff...we all get it from our elders and the media at some point, but there is no need to feed it to kids, they will find it soon enough from their friends at school.....

    I have already submitted suggestions to you, but I would like to offer another suggestion. Once we address and deal with the 'corruption' issues can we not add a bot (on top of already being thoroughly human reviewed) that with spider the entire category on a regular basis looking for offensive keywords? This way no additional time and effort is required by the editor and it should aid in keeping the real bad stuff out :cool:.

    Easier said than done. As previously mentioned it is a large part of the net that is legal. There are some that chose to view 'adult' material. As long as it's legal, it will never go away nor be dropped by DMOZ,Google, AOL, Yahoo, etc.

    You see folks, the heat is on big time, DMOZ will move on this or they will be busted, I see Google taking out a lot of porn sites down the road too!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2006/01/19/ap2461200.html?partner=alerts
    Online search engine leader Google Inc. vowed to fight legal efforts by the federal government seeking to force the company to turn over closely guarded search results as part of an investigation into online pornography.
    The company has so far refused to comply with a subpoena issued last year for a broad range of material from its databases, including a request for one million random Web addresses and records of all Google searches from any one-week period, lawyers for the U.S. Justice Department argued in court papers filed Wednesday in federal court in San Jose.
    The government contends it needs the data to determine how often pornography shows up in online searches as part of an effort to revive an Internet child protection law that was struck down two years ago by the U.S. Supreme Court.
    The Child Online Protection Act was intended to punish online pornography sites that make their content accessible to minors.
    The government is preparing to defend the law in a federal court in Pennsylvania on the basis that it is more effective than software filters in protecting children from porn.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    I would bet a lot that Google is removing porn sites from the index quickly right now and that DMOZ will do the same.

    DP is not the only place where people are getting heat by any means on these issues!

    This issue is giant right now in the news as we all know!

    I am not in favor of the government getting Google records in any way, but I am for them cleaning up the search indexes as best they can to avoid lawsuits and to protect children!

    The problem with Google is their search filters suck. Always has. You can have the adult filter on and still get plenty of porn in the results.

    Well, how could Google possibly dump all the porn on the Internet. Plus, there's money in Google keeping the porn. (Yes, Google is corrupt too!)

    AC, I think there's a hidden agenda here. In the public eye the feds state that they need the info to 'crack down on porn'...I can't believe you (of all people) are buying this :eek:

    Remember this? Personally I think the feds are using porn to deflect the true motivation for this request...but that's probably another thread ;) .

    The media and the government are working sort of like "America's most Wanted" does to investigate these crimes and put them on TV, so if people do not clean up their acts they are going to be busted and have lawsuits filed against them, it is that simple!

    Parents are pissed off and the 2006 midterm elections are coming up!

    Don't worry. They'll only send the midget FBI. You can take 'em.

    anthonycea - You may very well be correct. I don't have any idea wat goes through the minds of the bigwigs at AOL. They could swoop in tomorrow and say, "No more porn in the ODP!", or they might not even be paying attention. There is no way for any of us to know, so that makes this discussion rather futile...I will keep editing based on what I have to work with - not on a distant maybe.

    Thanks to everyone so far who has given me ideas about the direction you think Adult should take. It has given me a lot to think about.

    I don't think anyone wants to get caught on TV in a sting, being the conduit to these websites could open up these SE's and directories to some large lawsuits and that is what they need to worry about in addition to the welfare of children!

    No one wants to be responsible for kids being abused!

    PS: sidjf, I can tell you for a fact that AOL and Google are reading your comments :eek:

    After you admitting that DMOZ editors are in affiliate doorway business for porn sites in this post, asking for solution in your next post which I supplied an easy one in this post, I haven't got any response from you.

    Don't you want more suggestions? :rolleyes:

    Is it because the users in DP are not such morons as you imagined; and can not be manipulated as easily as DMOZ editors? ;)
