COLUMBUS, Ohio - Paul Tibbets, who piloted the B-29 bomber Enola Gay that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, died Thursday. He was 92 and insisted for six decades after the war that he had no regrets about the mission and slept just fine at night.

After such a mass murder having no regrets .....
Bush, Condy, Dick, Rumsfield you can bet they have no regrets at all too ......

If they wanted to show Japan that US has an A bomb, they could have just dropped it on military installations, that could have well convinced the Japanese to surrender. But they went for the biggest in history mass murder in a single day.

Because he saved the lives of many American soldiers. Who would have had to invade Japan to win the war.

To win a war you need to break your enemy’s will to fight, nothing kills you will to fight then watching a 100,000 people die in an instant.

Because he was just following the orders..

Besides, his mission possibly saved another millions of European, Asian and American people from death's claw...

I wouldn't have regretted either, if I were him.

Apparently you have no idea why these two cities were chosen for bombing.
The two cities had their war time importance and vast military significance during WWII. While Nagasaki wasn't the primary target for 2nd bombing, Kokura was. But they switched to Nagasaki because of weather. The primary objective of the bombing was to destroy Japanese will and confidence of fighting, additionally to damage their military installation. If killing civilians was the only reason, they would have bombed Tokyo instead.

Here, a good read for you to learn something about the bombing - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_bombings_of_Hiroshima_and_Nagasaki

One can always find ways to mask the worst war crimes .... as humanitarian actions.

Such things are done even today .... by this admin.

Yeah perhaps you see nothing wrong with the slaughter of Chinese, European jews and such people. Perhaps you would have been happier if millions of more people would have died, and the war would have prolonged by let's say 2 years.

It would have been more fun, no? Like what could have been more fun than reading about millions of Chinese death (Ahh ofcourse civilian) millions of dead rotting Jews corpse (Did I mention Civilians?) and More American deaths along with even more Japanese deaths..

Seems like fun RTS game.. Age of Empires, anyone?

Dude get a reality check, before you jump on 'bash'em evil Americans bandwagon'....

AND BTW, in case you are going to curse Americans because of my response, No I'm not American or even European...

    Have fun ;)

Which makes me wonder why you defend them.....is GTech paying you? :p

As for the OP, the pilot cannot be blamed, he was just another sheeple doing his job. Saying that he had "no regrets about the mission" does make him a total wanker in my opinion though.

The killing of thousands of innocent civilians can never be condoned. I am amazed how stupid some people are these days with their MSM muddled minds. I wonder what they would say if it was thousands of their own people being killed.

Here is some lyrics from OMD about that day, great song it is too from the 1980's. :)

Enola Gay, you should have stayed at home yesterday
Ah-ha words can't describe the feeling and the way you lied

These games you play they're going to end in more than tears someday
Ah-ha Enola Gay it shouldn't ever have to end this way

It's eight fifteen and that's the time that it's always been
We got your message on the radio
Conditions normal and you're coming home

Enola Gay, is mother proud of little boy today
Ah-ha this kiss you give, it's never going to fade away

Enola Gay, it shouldn't ever have to end this way
Ah-ha Enola Gay, it shouldn't fade in our dreams away

It's eight fifteen and that's the time that it's always been
We got your message on the radio
Conditions normal and you're coming home

Enola Gay, is mother proud of little boy today
Ah-ha this kiss you give, it's never ever going to fade away

Here is the song from the mighty OMD.

Yeah, he sounded like a bit of a tool with his "just following orders" routine.

You are aware that the bombardier release the weapon, not the pilot I hope.

You know how many innocent lives were saved because of the dropping of the Atom bomb on Japan? Countless. Especially since the Emperor of Japan was going to arm women and children to fight against an American invasion of Japan.

Who defends whom here, AGS? I often wonder why you defend the "savages" you defend. In your mind, it may seem perfectly rationale. In my mind, I just shake my head and think God must have spent a little less time on you than others.

Neither that I know if. I know he didn't go to Hell because it does not exist. To get to heaven...well that's a completely different story. The question is what qualifies anyone to go to heaven? and what does the Bible teach on these matters?

Never miss an opportunity: only Jehovah's Witnesses go to Heaven right? You show your membership or something and then you're in? Do you have to get a special stamp from your Kingdom Hall:confused:

The funniest things is, America wasn't even involved in the WWII, until freak Japanese decided to bomb her, out of blue...

    I can't quite agree.

Roosevelt sought the war, and Churchill badly needed our involvement as well. It is convenient to think that Japan was evil personified in starting the war, and we were blameless. But in my read and re-read of the history of the period - to include original documents from both sides, including diplomatic exchanges - it seems pretty clear to me that we share the blame. Too lengthy to go into here - review Japan's defeat of Russia in 1905, its involvement in WWI, the Washington Naval conferences of 1922 (and limitations imposed on an erstwhile ally, Japan), all the way to the mounting language (principally by then Secretary of State Hull) to get a picture of what was actually going on between the two nations.

I do not excuse Japan's attack, nor the depravity with which it conducted its Pacific War. I only say that I think we had a hand in lighting the fuse.

I understand what you are saying, but Japan shouldn't have given USA an excuse to join the war with that mindless bombing... When you try to play with fire and get your hand burnt, you should not blame the fire..

Funny, I read that Hiroshima survivors are sad that Tibbets died without saying sorry to them.

Yeah right, they should have been asked if they felt sorry when their army was slaughtering Chinese, did they issue an apology for all the deaths their empire caused in Europe and Asia ?

It was a situation of dilemma, but you'd have no morals if you don't feel guilty killing innocent civilians even at the cost of saving other lives.
