    I really dig Pluginstaller - which allows you to upload, install and activate new plugins on the fly with-out ftp

    an installer...using which u can install plugins and install themes..just using a form based interface..is best.....saves time...but most recommended is related posts plugin

    funny you should say that - apparently the author (elliottback dot com) has withdrawn the plugin b/c it was so badly abused. interesting post on his site.

    Akismet and the SEO plugin, other than that you dont really need many plugins unless your doing something fancy.

    Hands down Akismet is the best plugin and depending on what you really want to do with your blog can be the only plugin you need
