new PR 5 site

Discussion in 'Google' started by indyguidedotinfo, Aug 4, 2007.

    Cheers,

A friend of mine picked up a recently expired PR 5 domain and currently in the google toolbar it is pr5 and certain google data centers have it as no page rank.

so there 3 data centers PR 5 and the others are no page rank.

Is that a problem? what is going to happen?

    Thanks

Sorry to say, but if it expired, it's probably in the process of getting it's PR reset.

expired domains won't lose their pr if they still have the same back links pointing to them and similar content.

    Partly right!
    Also Depends on
    1. Expiry date & Google snap shot date (If the domain expired very near to google PR snap shot date its much likely to drop PR- I have experienced this many times)
    2. If the domain is cached and has decent backlinks the PR will sustain until next PR update unless you start backlinks else it will drop during the next update.

Also, it won't keep its PR if it is a fake one

Yes, you may want to check and see if it is fake PR. Especially if it was bought on eBay!!

Theres one ebay seller scamming people by selling fake PR domains, not surprisingly they've set most of their auctions as private. I did contact one that wasnt private and told him he's been scammed so we'll see what he does, hopefully he'll complain and get the seller banned!

actually, since google is a domain registrar they know when a domain expires and is sold in the expired domain auctions.

It takes them time to remove the backlinks to the old site. But they do it.

Yahoo is a lot faster at removing those backlinks, which is why you can see an expired domain have no backlinks in yahoo be still show in google.

    Usually the domain is reset.

I bought an expired domain in Oct. 2006 and the orginal owners were still linking to it. So it kept its PR2.

How can you actually check if a domain has been dropped ever? I've been considering buying old domains...but never had the time to make the new sites. So I'd be glad if you let me know - I might get some /not dropped/ :)

I search google for the domain, you can often still find references to the site before.

For example, someoene tried to scam me today
Trying to get me to link to his health site, in return for a supposed pr4 link on another health site, http://ingilteraupair.com. A quick gooogle search on it reveals its not as it seems and it will be losing its PR.

Typical.. If you want to build a site from a dropped domain, you need to rebuild links.

I think Google discounts existing backlinks for dropped domains, so it doesn't matter if the site has backlinks or not.

What I am not sure is that either Google simply drops all the backlinks for dropped domains or when they pick up the new content for backlinks being irrelevant.

If the domain is expired and left away for some period, Will it have the same domain age if someone takes it after some years?
