Row in Italy over priestly sex abuse documentary

A political row has erupted in Italy over whether state television should air a BBC documentary about the sexual abuse of children by Roman Catholic priests.......

The dispute broke out after a conservative politician said RAI should block the documentary because it was part of what he called "a media execution squad ready to open fire on the Church and the Pope".
Mario Landolfi, head of the parliament's oversight committee for the broadcaster, asked RAI director general Claudio Cappon to deny permission to air "Sex Crimes and the Vatican"...........

Two leftists parliamentarians, Giovanni Russo Spena and Gennaro Migliore, said in a joint statement that the documentary should be aired because "paedophilia in the Catholic Church is well known, there is no mystery about it".............

The BBC documentary examined what it described as secret Vatican documents setting out procedures to deal with general abuse of the confessional by a priest to silence his victim.

 

When will the catholic church crack down on the pedophiles? If they keep burying the crap instead of dealing with it, it will continue to happen.

Guess maybe they should rethink the unmarried priest rule..... or just rethink the whole Catholicism thing.

 

That’s right. Though I’ve never understood why this unmarried priest rule came into existence in the first place. I don’t think that rule was written in the bible, so someone must have made it up!

sadly though, letting priests be married does not solve everything...nor will it get rid of people who get their jollies off by fondeling little kids.

 

Many of the first apostles including Paul were very anti-feminine and anti-sex. Water and women were considered sign of devil and more lace you had, the closer you were the God and sex was only accepted as a mean for having children.
As the influence of church increased and priests accumulated more wealth, it became important for the church to keep the wealth of the priests and don't let their children and wife get it after their death and that is the reason church forbid priests to marry but it didn't stop even different pope to have many illegitimate children.

Wow where do you get this stuff, the apostles were very for womens rights ie both mary's being treated as more than equal. And the church doesnt allow marriage because they believe you cant be married to the church and a wife, the same reason they dont allow polygamy. As for your comments about the supposed catholic belief about sex, you couldnt be more wrong, catholicism doesnt approve of loveless sex but they say the single greatest gift one can give to ones spouse is their chastity ie virginity. That doesnt sound anti-sex to me.

 

They would have to first let go of the "trinity" doctrine. That would certainly be a step in the right direction. However, I can't see that happening "according to Bible prophecy.

My point was, that there were some threads regarding the subject in another religion, and not a peep by you. Priests were allowed to marry until it became a fiscal issue for the church, because the church used to have to support the priest, his wife, and his children. I think it was Pope Octavius (numeral here) who did that because he wanted to save more money while he redecorated the Vatican in gold. Yes, gold, the only surefire way to get into heaven. Act now and take one unborn infant free of charge with you!

 

You are almost right. It was because of money but not because the church didn't want to pay for priest and his family, it was because the priests were very powerful and accumulated alot of wealth that church didn't want to lose after their death to their family and therefore it forbid priests to marry.
