Of course its helpful - as long as you're exchanging links with other relevent sites. What's even more helpful is if you create some great content and/or quality freebies that people will automatically link to without you asking.

Hi phillip. Exchanging links can help build Google PR and improve your website rankings on search engines. What you shoud be careful about is that you should not exchange links with sites that have link farms, or with FFA sites.

Actually, I think its better to have a few really good quality links from authority sites than a bunch of low PR links. Quality over quantity. It's hard work getting them, but its worth it.

You're going to have to have a pretty compelling offer to have the 'big sites' give you any time of day. You can't just email Amazon and ask for a link exchange.

You may want to start your own article site that has the ability to submit to other article sites. Publish your own articles and get them listed with backlinks to your site.

I analyzed link exchanges from an SEO part of view in a thread here at DP regarding how Link Exchanges Are Worthless in terms of weight - basically nowadays search engines can tell if two websites are exchanging links and thus they do not carry the same weight/importance as a one-way link to your website. :)

To further clarify that observation is a simple reasoning to why: obviously quality websites with good quality content will be linked to by other websites, and thus prove its value as a resource by being cited on another website. However, link exchanges are just set up merely to help traffic, but it's still a link and it never does hurt to exchange links. :) So yes, you can technically say the title of my link is inaccurate there but after reading my reasoning, please don't argue with me as I explained fact. :D

If my article was useful to you or even if this post was useful to you, I'd appreciate a digg.

In this case it is not a good idea to use submit services.

They should not be in business?

i think submit services are not good way of business, they submit to all directories within 1-2 hours, i recommend submit manually, i search some terms in google and submit my links (1-2 links per day).

"submit link", "add link" "suggest link"

Yes it's helpful however if they rank first page for the keyphrase you're after than it means these sites are your number 1 competitors.
So it's highly unlikely that they will reply back.
