I love the default skin, Alicia's default seems like it will rock your socks too.

Sadly the previous version phpizabi was very low-end and lacking decent customization.

You can't get Alicia yet, it's still in its testing phase, it should be out in a few months according to the official website.

Btw if you are trying to install phpizabi (Alicia's previous version) you will need to figured out the ioncube php.ini issue which for beginners becomes a pain in the ass, I would just wait for Alicia to start your free open source social networking site, there is another software being developed named phpRaven but nothing is know about it yet.

I played around with the older version, but I didn't find anything special about it other than it being free.

Alicia will be essentialy be free, but some of the "nice" features of the script will be not be free but sold as add-ons, smart concept if you ask me.

I know of 3 different scripts being developed as competitors of phpFox and Handshakes... I would just wait to see how those scripts turn out to be before wasting $300 on phpFox.

Alicia is not out yet, It will take another 20 days for same as they had declared 20th oct as public release date when I last checked out their website.

phpizabi is good enough but has encrypted/encoded code and you will need some software on server for that to run properly.

You can try out Joomla + Community builder as it is coming up very well and has most of the community builder features already.

Other software is dolphin by boonex .com. They have a good set of features which comes out of the box and you can buy their cheap licences as well.

I don't know what you are smoking really? but it must be really good, Boonex is not even good enough for me to even waste my time on. The hidden fees to remove every logo in your website pretty much killed the software's chance for any type of success.

    damn this sucks...

I've been looking for such a script for a while now as well but every script out there has bugs and so the problem is if you keep waiting, the opportunity for such sites will get smaller and smaller because you could have grown a nice user base by the time a script with no bugs come out.

on the other hand if you go with a script that has bugs, it could kill the success of the site and make it a bad experience for the users.

$300 is not a problem for me...

what to do what to do...

The script is a custom script that the coder is selling from a main template, it's the same phpRaven will do but for a lower price.

It will basically sell a script similar to myspace and orkut, where you can request a custimazation of the script to suit your needs.
