This software maker says you MAC addicts should worry about viruses that will target your MAC's http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1105_2-5245399.html?tag=zdnn.alert
Yes there is always something to worry about. No one ever said we were immune. But it's like an earthquake in Minnesota. Sure it could happen, but it hasn't happened yet.
Ain't no snow in the summer time neither, but you know winter is coming. Sure as hell some good snowboarding in the winter though. "sure as hell" I better start being good A lot of sayings floating around all of a sudden. "Be prepared for the worst" "Should have listened" "Wish I'd had bought M$ in 1986, but got ripped off by penny stock brokers" "Penny Stock Brokers took the money they stole from me and got rich buying M$ in 1986 with my money" Yah, a lot of sayings going around.
I wouldn't put to much weight when it's a anti-virus company telling you how badly you need anti-virus software.
I would put more consideration on what he says than APPLE, if you lose all of your hard drives, then you have real problems. How do you know what viruses could be inside if you never scan? Maybe you should start a thread or a subject on BACKUPS here Shawn just in case, this is a subject that most could use help on.
I do have virus protection and backups in place on my Macs (for the record, in the last 8 years, the only viruses detected were Windows viruses in email). Just saying anything an anti-virus company tells you about how badly you need anti-virus software (regardless if it's true or not), is moot because of the source.
What virus software and backups Shawn, can you help us with those subjects by Starting some new Subject catagories or threads? What products are you using (show us how to do it)? Backups are an area that give many users problems, many do not even know how to run tape or disk backups.
FYI- 12 years on a Macintosh. Total viruses? 0 Trojans? 0 Worms? 0 I own a p4 with XP Pro for reference purposes, but I think I'll stick with my Mac.
While there are Mac viruses, they don't work anything like Windows viruses. Windows viruses are 99.9% the fault of Microsoft. They never planned ahead (they never seem to in anything now that I think about it... it's all about acquiring something that someone else did first/better), and they assumed everyone would be "nice" when they made all their ActiveX, VB scripting crap that can initiate without the user asking it to. A Mac viruses are really more of trojans, because there isn't a whole lot you can do without the user authorizing something. And even when it does, if that process tries to install something where it shouldn't be (like the system area), the user must authenticate as root (OS X is UNIX). So bottom line is the widespread worms/viruses that plague Windows users is directly caused by Microsoft's naivety and lack of foresight.
OK, just tell Twister Mac this stuff, cus he says he never scans, has no AV, never worries about spyware or adware. You Mac Guy's are just a different breed, you actually know what you are doing.
I'm reading along. However it's nice to see other saying what i always do. Macs need authorization to install a virus. Quite convent!
Plus.. let's not forget that OSX is 100% unix based, meaning VERY stable and fully multi-threaded/multi-tasking, and the computer itself gets its smarts from the execution core of IBM’s 64-bit POWER series processors, which drive IBM’s hugely successful, state-of-the-art eBusiness servers. This CPU can address 8 GIGS of RAM! This is an incrediblely fast, rock solid platform that performs more like a mainframe computer than a desktop. It's simply amazing. SEOGulper ps- viruses? We don't get no stinkin' viruses!
Oh you MacTerd/Nerds make me want to go buy a real computer. What a bunch of Zealots you guys are, you have to love folks that stand up for their beliefs. Or maybe you all just hate Bill Gates, I hope he never finds out, or you guy's are up shit creek when he starts handing out computer user ID numbers. Don't worry, you can always live in the woods with the rest of those folks that belong to the MACCULT, when M$ drives them all out to the wilderness. Do you guy's know what plants are eatable?
I sronghly sugjest you do If you do the next time a Virus hits the only thing you will complain about is the net slowing down.
