I think we have a pretty good track record considering the failures of humanity in general. Have we done more good as a nation or more bad? I would say we have done more good and overcome the bad as best we are able. A bunch of dumbasses get into high office and start usurping our rights and declaring illegal military actions from time to time but for the most part we are not a nation of war mongering, greedy, psychopaths. When every other country in the world starts acting perfect I might start to feel personally guilty about things that happened 50 years ago. Until then all I can say is yeah that was fucked up.
It appears that when conservatives point the finger at liberal democrats and proclaim that we "blame America first" they are perhaps a bit misguided..... Perhaps they should look at certain 3rd party supporters... To answer your question directly. The checks and balances were there. They just happened to all agree on the same thing. No single branch of government carried that overthrow out by itself. Members of the executive, and legislative branches were all involved. Now, try addressing mine. We saw just this past Friday the desires of the President of the United States voted down in congress. Is that a good enough example of checks and balances for you? Or would you like to explain to me how that was just how an empire would have done it?
Great, we'll be on an even playing field then when I call you a driveling fool. You've displayed quite well on this forum by now that you are not the brightest crayon in the pack.
I would have to disagree with you there. GeorgeB has shown more logic and down-to-Earth opinions then even your most stable exclamations. I have been here a month, and already I would trust his word a hundred times over yours. That opinion is tripled by your avatar alone.
USA is and will remain the most powerful and dominant country in the world...period!!! The world depends on USA for its daily survival. If the American economy goes down, so does the rest of the world!!!!
Actually we are a constitutional republic, one of the oldest in the world at that. (Wikipedia for more) And yes, I agree with you that we are not going anywhere anytime soon. Gas prices are already going down which is already helping and people are getting in the holiday spending spirit. The number 1 thing that affects the economy is consumer spending. As soon as people start spending again, business will start prospering again. I just hope that too many socialist principles are not implemented into our system such as "spreading the wealth"... God be with us and God bless America.
What a barrel of laughs this weekend brings.. glad to share some on the forums. So you've been here a month, made 95 posts, and have what looks to be an avatar fit for a child's mind while you comment on my own. .. I won't jump to conclusions as hastily as you have.
Well, I have to agree that GeorgeB. is among the most logical, reasonable, and intelligent people I have ever corresponded with, certainly an intellectual Pillar of these forums. He has, through his unceasingly rational analyses, convinced me to reconsider my beliefs (From 100% atheist to 99.99% atheist, .01% agnostic with respect to any given religion. This being the difference between an absolute and moderation, it is important.) Anyway, I have found that he thinks every statement through totally and completely, and all of his stances are thought through to every logical ramification. As an ultra-rationalist, I can give no higher praise.
I have been here a month (which I commented on), I have made 95 posts since I tend to stick to work related topics during my time here (I do have more going on with my life then political debate), and I have an avatar of a character from a well known and enjoyed adult cartoon. I am not quite seeing the point of your post....
Ouch, watch the friendly fire bud.. you accidentally hit your personal savior GeorgeB with that sly remark - who happens to have 4,774 posts, most of them coming from P&R. Must've gone over your head.
lol. Considering I'm not religious or conservative I'm assuming you're referring to someone other than me? Did GeorgeB teach you how to think like a collectivist? Looks like you two are in need of some more intellectual reinforcement. George might swing by to help you out, but I wouldn't count on it.. last time he stopped in he didn't have much to say.
well, actually, from what I have seen of you, you are pretty conservative. Also, I define religious as anybody who believes the teachings of any particular religion (IE its synonymous with theistic).
Hmmm, have you been around for longer than a month? Maybe you can quote me somewhere of my "conservative" or "religious" beliefs. That may make for a better conversation than we're having now.
I think you once agreed with me on some small point... that alone should be proof you're a dangerous right wing fanatic.
Don't get me wrong, I share some beliefs with conservatives on some issues. We actually seem to share this mentality (general distrust towards government). It's a typical reaction however to classify me a conservative if I don't support nonsense. The new left is nothing but a logical fallacy. Appeal to emotion.
Pingpong, please tell me you don't really think we only went into Iraq for a lie. Do you recall when we listed about 15 reasons why we went into Iraq. One was WMD's (which bush was misinformed on) another was the 12 or so UN Security Counsel Resolutions that said along the lines of "Iraq, let us inspect or we will take you over" signed, UN Security counsel. Those were over the course of about 8-10 years. There were plenty of other reasons. Its just the liberal media chose to focus on one thing. Get some better sources. The checks and balances do not involve the American people directly. The Checks and Balances you refer to are when Congress passes a law, The president enforces the law, and the supreme court rules if the law is constitutional or not. Hence, Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branches. Checks and Balances are in place to keep the President from doing what he wants when he wants. They're also there to make sure congress doesn't pass any crazy laws. It takes an overwhelming majority of congress to over ride a presidential veto. And the supreme court basically chills in the background until they decide to take something. In no way is it the people directly doing checks and balances. The way they do that is by electing or not electing someone. Presidents and Congressman are elected by the people as REPRESENTATIVES of the people. This is not a true democracy. They're still there, please, take your conspiracy theories somewhere else.
