Website Stats...

I host my site with godaddy.. They offer basic traffic info.. It's really not too bad, but they just show me total page hits for the day and what I would like is something that tells me how many unique visitors I've had and what they've looked at. Godaddy offers and upgrade for 1.95 that is supposed to be a lot better.. Is there anything free that does what I need? Is there anything that shows in real time or with a minor delay. My current traffic reports are generated everyday about 6AM for the prior days traffic. Thanks....

I use awstats at http://awstats.sourceforge.net . It is fairly cpu intensive, and may be difficult to setup without shell access, but it gives nice up to the minute reports including unique visits and google hits.

If your site is new and you don't have tons of traffic, a good free program called statcounter*com is easy to use. Just add a simple javascript to pages you want to track.

I used the free Statcounter.com code as well. Upgraded recently though to get even more out of it.

Could anyone explain what my stats mean?? I think they may be wrong though... I have had several unique IPs visit.. it says distinct hosts served was 0 during last 7 days... but they site has really only been up the last 7 days?? And my report shows over 100 IP adresses... about 20% is mine from checing over the site... but the 80-85% are several different IPs???

You would have better luck plugging your logs into another free program called webexpert.
Your stats don't mean much to me. I need pretty graphs and that explain what keywords people used to get to my site, what search engines, popular pages, operating systems, screen resolution, exit pages, landing pages, surfer geography, error pages, user paths, ect.
The only stat that I see that would mean anything to most webmasters and SEO peeps would be your number 15 stat= total data transferred 66.2 MB which is self explanitory I would say. :p
Go get webexpert or use statcounter and you'll get some information that is actually usefull. :)

I guess my question is... what exactly is the disctinct file request... and why does it say 0 requestof for dinsting host in the last 7 days...?? the last 7 days have been the only days this thing has even been active??? I know there have been several new IPs daily based on another report that shows unique IPs....

These stats technically don't make much sense (it is physically impossible to generate 8K requests in the last 7 days and zero distinct files). Talk to your hosting company and they should fix it for you.

If this is all stats they offer, you might want to use your own log analyzer. There's been a few threads on this topic - search the site admin forum for suggestions.

Those stats you have are really not enough to effectively manage your site. I would definitely pursue some of these other suggestions ASAP. Statcounter is very simple to use, especially if you use include files.

For webserver logfile analysis, I've found http://summary.net/ to be an excellent program. It works in Linux or Windows, and it read my logfiles first time with no problems, even though I have daily log files, not monthly, and it comes from IIS. I am just using the free version, and it is good, so the paid-for version must be very good. (This is just trafic analysis, not adsense analysis)
