Google is trying to make inroads into the China search engine market. To make the users reach its site quickly, it has obtained the shortest possible domain name in China, http://g.cn, and previously users were able to reach it as google.cn. Google announced today that it purchased the domain name g.cn in China to make it the shortest possible domain name. It said this domain will make the users easy to find. Whether this domain name will be able to surpass the Baidu Search engine, we have to wait and see. http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/245069/Google_gets_the_shortest_domain_name_ever
Well, its only a PR3 website at the moment, but something tells me that will change shortly. I wonder if in the near future the China search market will meet or exceed the US search market?
If we have learned anything over the past 3 weeks its that PR doesn't matter, and they already redirected it
Smart move by G. Chinese people will easily remember and use G.cn insted of the loong baidu.com, unless it's not redirected to it yet.
G.com is very easy to remember, but maybe baidu means something in Chinese that they can also easily remember.
uh... doesnt china not redirect google properties to baidu? So wasnt this a waste of money for google? Pierce
Ouch. Chinese traffic. No clicks for them I dont think it's that wise of an investment. I mean sure, saves about a second of typing, but keeping the whole idea of google.tld is what makes google special in my mind.
Of course there are clicks. Google delivers ads based on your geographical location and ads on google.cn are in chinese and from chinese businesses.
