I am interested in finding out how Yahoo makes money? I also am interesred in how they market there search engine? If anyone has information or thoughts about this issue please share them.

Yahoo makes money by doing some of the following.

1) Provide extra features that cost money such as mail plus

2) Offer biding based advertising in their search engines (all the sponsored adds at the top) and link to other sites that charge and charge those company's for the placements (all the external links in games.yahoo.com) and even though this is only a few examples most of it comes from advertising a small business can easily spend a few thousand a month in advertising costs with yahoo. (yahoo also has things like auctions real estate and voice services that they charge for)


3) Directory Listings
4) Web Hosting
5) Music
6) Auctions

Yahoo is not like Google dude . They have website in different sectors and good money from advertising big brands on main pages . Their are so many products of yahoo too .

Once you get rich, if you are smart you will never go poor. Yahoo invests money in various services that they provide as well as doing deals with other companies and some smart investments. I think you thought that they don't make money because Google is way better but there is much more to Yahoo than just search engine. Plus Yahoo is still "BIG", companies do pay a lot of money to be first on Yahoo search pages.

Almost everyone from Asia are using yahoo especially YM. They earn a lot from ads on YM and they are not sharing even a small portion of their revenue.
