I've bought and sold a few domains/sites this year and each one has seen an almost immediate Google PageRank drop once the ownership handover was complete. It has been suggested this is related to Google watching for, and preferring, stable domain history.

Anyone else seeing this?

The main problem is Backlink. Your backlink is reduce , espeacially high PR Backlink.

Changing ownership or expiration often causes PR to reset. It's not 100% but it's very common.

I think u need to be more careful when buying sites, there are people that as soon as they sell a domain or site they also remove their backlinks on their other sites which probably had caused the page rank to go up in the first place. There could be many other reason though...

Every time when You buy a domain check where do the PR came from. You can have PR 6 page in one month just from 1-3 links. So if someone have PR 8 page or two he can create many PR 4-6 pages , sell them and take these links away.

Thanks all. In all cases with the sites I was referring to, no reduction on backlink counts following the sales - in fact most counts increased due to consistent promotion.

Its probably due to the sudden change in the website's niche, domains like lionsanime.com which used to be in the anime niche will surely lose pagerank if the niche they are in is altered (such as turning it into a directory)
