well the domain is probably under redemption period
Any domain that expires has a redemption period(a period where the owner has the option to renew it)
so, a new registrar can only register that domain after that redemption period is over

the domain will be Available between 45 and 72 days from its expiration date

Will back-ordering it through, let's say Godaddy, going to help to make sure that you get the first option when the redemption period lapses? Or it doesn't work like that?

If you backorder it, which ever company you back order it with will try and nab it as soon as it becomes available.

yes, but if more people want that domain You will have to bid with them and then the domain wont go cheap.
