View Full Version : Why doesn't Yahoo switch to Google's look?

It seems that feature-reduction, or at least organization, would step up Yahoo's image considerably.

I personally love yahoo the way it is. Why copy something, it's better to be different. What they need to do is work on the search issues they have and go from there. I don't use google much because I can't get what I want without having to hunt for it. I'll use them for search, but thats about it.

Yahoo is better looking than google in my opinion the search just sucks.

I don't that's a good idea because if Yahoo wants to be better than Google they need to do something new, not copy them.

It does not copy because It's Yahoo! and it has its own identity before Google.

Copying Google would mean that yahoo is out of ideas and losing the battle... and their shares would plummit... and when were talking about billions of $ you'd think twice before doing it

Yahoo is more than Google. In my mind, Google copied Yahoo with their "Google Personalized Start Page"; Yahoo's had that for a while.

Actually, I've often thought that Google should copy Yahoo's look.

I like simplicity and Google has always been easy to use and made for a easier search experience.

Yahoo is too complex for what I and a lot of other people on the internet use.

yahoo looks way better than google, they just need to make their search just a little bit more relevant

See it depends what actually one is looking for. If you just aim for searching, then in my opinion I go for Google, but if you want some nice blend of searching with entertainment, quick news etc. then yahoo is the definite choice. Many busy people use yahoo so that they can get a glimpse of whats going around the world before searching.

So the point is that nobody should copy each others style as people have different tastes and different reasons online. Some like yahoo and other go for google.

Then it is NOT Yahoo anymore - it becomes Google:eek:

I don't like Yahoo's Serach Marketing Dashboard, it seems like most of the time I'm waiting for it to load something. And their account balance is always wrong, about 2 weeks out of date for some reason? What good is that?

Yahoo is the best looking site IMO. Google is very simple, but it does its job better than everyone else.

I personally like having a fuller home page with more information. I have iGoogle set as my home page (for my reader mainly) and I have things like TODO and weather also.

If Yahoo were to simplify it's design, I'd go to Live's person home page. And so on.

Google is not a trend setter, nor a full on leader. Each company is unique to it's self and thats why they strive as they do. Google just has so much brand awareness going on, that it cannot be denied. If YPN opened up it's program to over seas, it would soon catch google up, if not beat.

Google do not treat customers (smaller ones) as well as they make out to do. They care about searchers, but not the advertisers nor the publishers. The company is run like Nazi Germany, and it's a shame. I once thought Google was a great company, with amazing customer service. Not any more. I do not use them for search, nor advertising any more.

This is a perfect reason why they will not change. Yahoo! does not have the same search power as Google, so if they tried to look like Google, Yahoo! would just become a worse version of Google. It would die very quickly.

Yahoo! survives because they are one of the most(if not the most) popular web portals on the internet, not because they are the best search engine.

I like yahoo too. Although it hasn't changed much over time, yet I find its services satisfying. As far as popularity is concerned, I believe yahoo is still ahead of Google.

I like Google's start page. its simple yet powerful.

While, Yahoo has a load of content on the index page and its not that of useful for me or everybody.

Well Yahoo should change their portal page , but in a complete diffrent way , not as like Google.

google focus on search. but yahoo focus on search and content provider.
If yahoo switch to google, it lose many ad income. that is bad news for yahoo itself.

It is important for search engine to be simple and yet powerful but it has no big purpose to look as Google. It is bigger concern why Yahoo crawls less urls than Google. Yahoo results are loading much more data becouse of special effects and javascripts so browsing Yahoo results every day will have result that you will load much traffic on your connection, not so good for people who have limited connection traffic or slow connection. Another important thing is why Yahoo requires yahoo account for every little thing that you want to use on Yahoo service.

Because they don't want to?

I don't think they really copied it, I think it was just the natural evolution of google.

If simplicity works for Google, and the portal look works for Yahoo! then why should one change to look like the other?

I agree, they don't need to change their look. Google is nice for their simplicity. Yahoo is nice because of it amount of information shared and the design.

I don't think that they will change it.
