How important is it to be listed in Dmoz and Yahoo Directory if I wanted my site to rank well?

DMoz will give better results than Yahoo as other directories use DMoz data, so you will get a stack of BLs at once. Yahoo made little difference to our rankings when we listed, given another chance I'd have used the money elsewhere.

It is great if you get listed in Dmoz or Yahoo Directory. It will be an authoritative site links to your site and will increase your SEO and traffic. Your site will be indexed fast and appear in search engines.

I notice that many categories of the Yahoo directory have no green juice on them.
$300 bucks is a lot for a listing with no love juice

Being in DMOZ will definitely give you some good juice..Only problem is that sometimes it takes forever to get approved by an editor.

Getting in to either one can boost your traffic. I recommend you try to get in both. I can't speak for everyone else but I got in to yahoo directory in 2 days, but the DMOZ i'm still not listed in and its been 2 weeks.

Yahoo is $299, DMOZ is free. However, DMOZ can take up to several months to be approved.

Being listed in both increases the relevant traffic. Of course, one would prefer free option over the paid listing. DMOZ we call it a lottery to get listed. Sometimes it is getting approved in just about several days, and sometimes it takes forever or never. One would never know why one site is getting listed, but not the other.
That was my experience with DMOZ.

HI
Yes it is so hard to get listed in Dmoz... I have submitted so many websites there and all were good sites but never get listed.

Dear maxens
Listing in DMOZ and yahoo are both important but at the same time difficult.
Lucky are those , whose sites are included in either DMOZ and yahoo.
DMOZ is better than Yahoo and at the same time its more difficult for the inclusion of the site.

I have submitted sites to Dmoz so many times without getting any inclusion that I finally gave up! Then about two months ago one of my sites was suddenly included. Yahoo is expensive but worth it if you have an online business and are not just trying to make money from Adsense.

Once your site is listed by DMOZ it will stay there as long as you keep the origina essence of your listed project, e.g. if your site was included as a football website, you can eventually change content, layout and whatever else but not the football topic or they will remove it in the following review.
With Yahoo is all about spiders crawling your site and sometime you can be there and some others not.

Yahoo Directory is just as important as DMOZ. Yahoo directory will help you getting traffic from Yahoo. There is also a free submission to yahoo option but I think its not very well managed as they would prefer to charge 200$ instead..

You could probably apply for an editor position and then submit your site.

DMOZ is good because, many other sites use it for directories. You just have to submit your site and hope for the best.

Once your site is listed in DMoz, you're site regularly crawls in Google as well and also get a stack of Back Links. While on Yahoo Directory, it is easier to get indexed and rank higher in crawler-based results of Yahoo! as well as Google and MSN.
