View Full Version : Proferssional and cheap appraisal

Hello,
Somebody needs a professional appraisal for a certain domain I own. He writes:
"
I need an appraisal certificate for domain priced in your range. Domain name is an investment for me. I'm going to sell your name later and make a profit. If I overpay I won't be able to make a profit in the future. So I need to know the current market value of your name. I guess your are also interested in getting this figure. Without professional appraisal it's impossible to set a right price."
Where can I get it a professional appraisal under 20$?

How does he know it's "priced in your range" if he doesn't know what it's worth? That whole message just seems weird. I don't know of a way to "appraise" a domain name. I would guess it's just worth whatever someone is willing to pay.

I have found something about this person:
http://www.sedo.com/forum/?task=showthread&thread=1143&tmp=&language=us&partnerid=14236&tracked=1
for example:
Extremely persistent on obtaining a “reputable appraisal” from AllForDomains.com, not from anyone else. Sent me a link to a forum (his own?) that he “bought this domain and that domain and that AllForDomains is the best...”
Beware, AllForDomains.com has an extremely poor reputation throughout dnforum.com. Do a search.

I think that more people should know about this form of sale. He tried cheat me in a very sneaky way. He gave me a links to the forums like this:
"Earlier I had a bad experience with www.Afternic.com. I also found the
following information about Afternic in the forum
http://forum.icann.org/nsi2001/3AC75D7900000305.html"
and
"
I never heard about Sell-My.com and their appraisal is not acceptable. I
don't trust companies with "-" in their domains. It means they cannot afford
to buy a good name. I will only accept appraisals from companies I trust.
I asked about reputable appraisal companies in a forum
http://domaintalk.ourplace.com/Archive/13477.htm
They recommended FastDomainSales.com. I did not hear about them before but
looks like they provide an accurate service."
and
"
Please note that we don't trust free or cheap appraisals. So we cannot accept appraisal from each and every site.
I asked about reputable appraisal companies in a well-known webmaster forum
http://domaintalk.ourplace.com/Archive/13477.htm
Juck check this posting. My nickname there is Bergman.
After we verify an appraisal from you we'll continue our negotiations."

Why not get a lifetime membership? It's well worth it.
The email is completely scam as some already posted.
He's trying different approaches from time to time, so whenever you'll receive an email similar to the posted one stay away from it.
There's not one single domain buyer who would ask you to use an appraisal service, because the domain might get appraised higher than what you would've asked.

I don't really think it's such a waste of time.
He's probably getting some n00bs to use his service with every mail he sends.
Still it's just a fucking rip-off so he should be stopped somehow...

I think so, too. He is cheating everybody who doesn't know how to deal with selling domains. Especially potential "clients" to him are new to selling domains. I think he makes a lot of $$$. If he will be known as a cheater he will change domains his name and start it from beginning.
I think that there should be an internet policy or sth.

Well, I didn't mean a waste of his time, I meant a waste of our time.
Hey, we were all n00bs once. A n00b may pay for an appraisal, then realize afterwards that the whole deal was a scam and, feeling cheated, may feel like doing the same thing to some other green domainer in order to "get back at the world." You know how these things go. Just trying to protect the innocent and break the cycle, if any.

Having never sold a domain name before, I almost fell for it:
"Hi,
I'm writing regarding your domain I saw listed for sale.
Is it still available for sale? Have you received any bids from other buyers?
Please email me your asking price.
If I can afford your domain I will contact you. Please keep my email address and our correspondence confidential.
I run a software development company. Selling & buying names is not my main business. Just another way to invest free money and make some income.

And then:
"1,500 USD. Ok.
Do you sell a developed site or just domain name? If you don't have a site it's not a problem. I'm mostly interested in domain names without content.
Do you have an appraisal of your domain? I need an appraisal certificate for domain priced in your range. Domain name is an investment for me. I'm going to sell your name later and make a profit. Hello peoples!
I can confirm it's cheating, today i've got mails for my ( lostparcel.com ) domain with totally same contents.
My final answer for the "sender" was the following:
""You ask for serious money and I need a proof."
1. Best proof is your sense that you've found this name.
"Domain appraising" is the biggest cheating on the world which i've ever heard on my life.
Imagine it: domain business is very big-big business nowdays and there are some big sellers who haves registered 5.000-20.000 names personally. Enough for these "appraisal companies" if these peoples with big databesaes gives finally 5% of the sold domains amounts for their good appraisals.
2. Esentially if i'm an owner of a domain name and request an appraising from a company they will give me never verification about a low value, because i didn't give job them more.
3. (url of this thread where i send post now)

Sedo is acceptable as a broker but not as an appraiser because your names
are listed with them and they are not independent. They are interested in
ovepricing in order to get a fat commission. I need appraisals from a
company which is not interested in selling your domains.

Hi,
I received this email just a couple of days ago:
"Hello,
We are interested in systemkeywords.com
After visiting several domain auctions I've found several good names
including your . What is your price?
Buying and selling domains is not a main direction of our business.
But since domain market is very hot now, buying and selling domain
names is a good income opportunity. We have a large database of
clients who are interested in Inernet projects.
Do you sell domain with a web site or just the name?
Domain without content is ok with me. Web site is not necessary.
Have you had your domain names evaluated in the past? I mean domain appraisals.
Without valuation we cannot be sure in the sale price. It's very important for me in terms of reselling too.
But we must engage a valuation company with REAL manual service. So I will only accept valuations from independent sources I trust.
To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal companies.
Please check this posting from archive:
http://domaintalk.007sites.com/Archive/290147.htm
If, for example, the valuation comes higher you can adjust your asking price accordingly. It will be fair. I also hope you can give me 12% - 15% discount.
After you send me the valuation via email (usually it takes 1-2 days to obtain it) we'll continue our negotiations.
What is your preferred payment method: Escrow.com, International wire transfer, PayPal.com or something else?
Hope we can come to an agreement fast.
Looking forward to do business with you.
