So how exactly do you know how many backlinks you have? Or links going into your site? Is that the same thing?

Go to yahoo and search link:yourdomain.com

Signup to Google Webmaster Tools (www.google.com/webmasters/tools), attach a sitemap and you'll see the backlinks within your account.

You can check your backlinks you have on each SE by typing on its this command on its surf bar - link:www.website.com

You can check your overall BLs using backlinkwatch.com (its very effective!)
