Purchasing Text Links for MSN - does it help?

We have a competitor with a lot of questionable backlinks (all from same IP, but different domains) who's ourranking us in MSN.

We have a lot of good IBL's, and outrank him in Google and Yahoo (which don't count links from the same IP, apparently).

I'm wondering if I buy some text links that it might help us out in MSN (assuming that the sheer number of links is the problem). Anyone have any experience buying links to help MSN rankings, if so, were you happy with the results?

BTW, don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but I remembered a while ago that someone (lots of someones, actually) Google-bombed George W. by linking "miserable failure" to his bio at whitehouse.gov. The same results show up in MSN. In other words, George W. is #1 for "miserable failure" in MSN, also, even though that phrase doesn't appear anywhere on the #1 result. Looks like MSN places a lot of importance on IBL's.

try coop ... much better than buying text links IMO. besides ... MSN traffic isn't that terrific yet.

MSN is certainly an up and comer, as you'd expect from a company that likes to leverage its monopoly power. I was VERY surprised to see that Yahoo is used as often as Google as a search engine, myself - with MSN about 1/2 of either. I haven't considered Yahoo to be worthwhile in years, since they did the $199/year thing.

MSN is getting better. One of my sites is receiving the highest traffic from MSN right now (but it's #1 with a 2 word very competitive keyphrase at MSN).

I wouldn't say that. I get most of my search engine traffic, around 60% from MSN. Most likely because I'm ranked number 1 for Pimp and various other keywords. Second is Yahoo and then Google.

scott ... do you have equivelant ranking on google? if you lack the rank on G, then yes ... MSN yahoo traffic could be your big driver.

Co-op does well for MSN. I would go with co-op and then do some free and paid directory links for long term fixed links.

Does anyone know if the co-op will ever have a seperate co-op that allows casino&adult sites? I'm sure there would be many willing sites out there.

Shawn has many times said no as he has no interest.

Others are creating similar networks to the Ad Network but for these sites but you won't see it offered at DP

I asked...I even asked if I could develop it if he didn't want to. He said;

Sorry... no plans to offer an adult ad network, and I don't want to be associates with one (directly or indirectly).

I would still develop one completely seperate from DP..but the problem would be getting people to use it - if I couldn't advertise it.
