I found this on TNX.
If I was aiming for a PageRank three home page on my website.
Would 18 links from a website with PR3 I swapped links with give me PR3?
Never built links for PR before.
Thanks,
BlueEew.

It probably will get you there...but you'll have some leakage for the outgoing links. I prefer to go after one way links first. You can get to a pr3 simply by submitting to a bunch of web directories. Then the extra high PR links you trade will probably get to pr4.

Is web directories still working to increase link popularity? I heard from someone, directory links are no more valuable.

They'll help but you cannot be sure as it's determined by Google and there's no information available for the number of link required to achieve a particular PR.

But I am guessing that is the average? The ones listed on the website?
Also what is the best ways to get one way links with PR?
Any free lists?

Other then directories, I don't think anyone would do a one way link for free.

Since ANYBODY can add an URL to a web directory, Google won’t value such links, at least not the way it will value links from quality and relevant sites.

Swapping links (aka reciprocal links) does not carry the same value as one way links. Additionally, if you are getting the 18 PR 3 links from the same domain, they will be further devalued.
If it's PR you are after, then get some high quality relevant backlinks to your site. Fill in your spare time with social bookmarking, directory submissions, blog commenting, etc. Don't focus on one area too much. Build a link profile you are proud of. :)

and remember that pr doesn't necessarily mean rankings or traffic, I have seen sites with good pr get no traffic, and I have seen pr0 sites get good rankings.

I was going to use Blogs with PR, and Directories with PR.

I know. :)
I am aiming to be able to build lots of unique content websites. When I have a bundle done. I will get traffic, and I also want to gain PR1 for each.
Would 20 PR1, 20 PR2, 20 PR 3, and 20 PR4 Directoy/Blog Comments links get me a PR1?

Linking to a website high PR is a good way to gain quality links; but it doesn't exactly will give you same PR as it have.

no one can tell you exactly how many links eqaute to a given PR. However the best way is to try and gain links from sites with good PR, ideally on a one way basis. That's why blogging works for me

I know that. :)
However higher PR links will get you the lower ranks quicker. That is correct if they are quality?

Blogging? Explain a bit more. I know what blogging is. Maybe you could give a few details on how blogging gains you PR.

It means leaving comments on peoples' blogs. Most of them has a option to enter your website.

Why do you aim for PR? Do you not want traffic? Do you not want high SERPs position? If you are that desperate for the little green bar to grow just fake it with a redirect code.

I fort so. I thought he was making blogs for PR.

I aim to learn how to do everything. I know PR isn't that important. However it tends to higher the value of a website.
For example. A unique website with no PR or Traffic. Could go for $10.
Wher the same with no traffic however with PR1 could go for $25.
I am learning everything. I want my websites to be good, and I want to be able to achieve rankings for all different areas.

I discovered that yesteday. It showed one of my sites to only have back links from one forum. When I have them from many when I check Back Link Checker websites.

I personally buy website depending on their revenue, not PR but I see how some might find it more attractive.

Also domains with PR with no website always tend to sell higher then ones with out PR.
You know if I link build a domain with no website on it. Will it still gain PR?

it will probably get deindexed so no pr, kind of like a ban but not as bad to recover from when you do start the site, you are better to put the site on first then build links. google must be able to figure out pretty easily that links are spammy if the site is building alot of links and there is no site there

Lightlysalted, you said you like links from sites with good PR, ideally on a one way basis. I started doing that again a couple of days ago, until I noticed that all Blogger blogs and subdomain.Wordpress.com blogs have a "Nofollow" attribute on the links I got. Humans may click occasionally, but certainly no PR love... :-(

I think that you have to build them very carefully, 3-4 links a week, in order not to be considered as a spammer.

yeah, one page website is ok,
and if the page has lots of really good backlinks it doesn't even need to have good content and it can still get really high PR :D

You don't need to limit yourself or fear getting slapped for spamming as long as the links you are building are RELEVANT.
