If I create an effective viral campaign for example, and build links to domain.com/viral will those links benefit domain.com as far as serps are concerned - ie. will it give my general keyword targets a boost to have lots of links going to a specific page. Does the whole site benefit or just the page?

But it will also give some reputation to domain. (not keyword ranking)
