trying to not include myself in my stats. so i go to:

/tmp/awstats/awstats.domainhere.conf

then i add my IP address to the line

SkipHosts="00.000.00.0"

then after a few days, i check and the entry is back to:

SkipHosts=""

i tried chaning it permissions to 777, editing it, then changing it back to 644 and check the file and my IP is there. then a few days later i go back and check and it's gone!! driving me crazy. i'm on hostgator.

Seems that a crontab is eating/overwriting your file. You might want to run a third party tracker which you have more control over. (like GoStats) ;)

This is a known problem with cPanel "controling" the AWStats config files. Several workarounds are explained here: AWStats Config File in cPanel (http://www.internetofficer.com/awstats/config-file-cpanel/).
