brazil obviously - ronaldinho, robinho, ronaldo, adriano, kaka, juninho, roberto carlos, cafu, lucio all in same team, world cup is theirs.
england probably have the squad to win it, unfortunately sven is a complete and utter tit so they won't be winning anything.

I think it'll be hard for anyone to beat Brazil, England will have a good chance providing they play attacking football and don't fall into the trap of sitting back and defending a 1-0 lead as they've done many times before.

To be honest, anything can happen, noone expected Greece to win Euro 2004. I would love to see Brazil v England in final. Did anyone see the Jamaica game on Saturday? 6-0 England hehe, how's that for a confidence boost. Jamaica's kit looked a lot like Brazil's aswell.
I think Ronaldinho has a lot of hype, he didn't play amazing in the Champions League, but that might be because of the man marking :) Beckham is also very hyped, I never really rated him that much until recently, all of his free kicks have been pin point accurate.

Firstly England have won the world cup before so i guess the earth is an ice cream already...
Then maybe people are saying England because on paper England have the best squad in the world cup, it doesnt take a genius to look at it and see how good it is. Englands players are all playing for world class teams, most playing in the premiership which is the best and hardest league in the world. Frank lampard rated 2nd best footballer of the year. Wayne Rooney one of the top strikers in the world. David Beckham still a world class player with great accuracy and very experienced. Our defence is amazing, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry etc. Midfield is the most solid in the whole of the world cup, Steven Gerrard, Joe Cole, Frank Lampard, David Beckham name me a midfield better then that this year?
Now explain why Portugal have any chance? And dont say Figo hes crap.

I have mentioned something like this before but only TOPS responded in a positive way if i recall correctly. There wasn't a lot of enthusiasm on this.
And only two or three participants isn't really that exiting i think.
I think before each game a individual post can be made where members can post their prediction for the game.
And someone like Crazy-Rob can collect the funds for the bets and pass the winnings of the winning bet to the winner.
Minus a fee for the good cause of course ;)
If there are multiple winners the pot will be divided equally of course.
I think some extra things need to be considdered though but if there isn't enough animo for this then why even start right? ;)

Does Paulo Ferreira start for chelsea..no does Maniche start for chelsea..no. Whats your point? They play for a good club but are not regular players to start in matches..Who exactly are these top clubs in the world? I can see only 3. Do you know how the rankings are calculated? By games throughout the year, Potugal if you compare there games to Englands games youll see they have had ALOT easier teams.

Henry maybe if France performs, though it'll depend on the team doing well. Some of the players are getting older and I'm not sure they'll get too far this time around.

The only time that India came close to participating in the World cup finals was in 1950.
At that time teams were invited to the world cup.
After Independance (1947) , India's first major competition was the Olympics. India did well there and so got an invite to 1950 world cup.
However just before the world cup fifa changed its rules and made it mandatory for players to play with shoes on. Most Indian players were from a poor background and were used to playing with their bare feet - Indian team had to withdraw from the world cup.
India has never qualified for the finals after that.

I love this tournament, what makes it so special is that it is every 4 years. Germany are of course the hosts and Brazil are the current world champions, but there are so many teams in with a realistic chance of winning.
Brazil will be favurites but teams like Argentina, France, Holland, Italy, Spain, England, Czech Republic and Germany will have a say in the matter. My personal feeling is that either Argentina or Czech Republic will win this time round.

They got some great results in qualifying. They got through at the expense of Nigeria. None of the teams at the world cup are going to whipping boys, they all deserve to be there.

I was thinking about the game Portugal VS Angola and suddenly started wondering if that match was not planned. Why didn’t Portugal score more goals? Think about it. Angola only suffered one goal which is not that bad. So if Mexico losses the next match against Angola they still stand a chance of going to the quarterfinals.

When you leave the US and hang in a place like Netherlands watching the game with everyone else, you can't help getting into it. In the US, you look at it for a second and switch the channel. I'm not sure why it is, that in one country there is no interest in that sport, and everywhere else people are just borderline fanatic.

Heh, "lucky" :p. IMO, Australia was all over Japan for the majority of the match. Posession statistics support this. It was just a shame with Japan's goal however, I don't think anyone would disagree with me in saying that it definitely wasn't a deserved goal. Big props to the Japanese though, whenever they had the ball and were attacking they had me on the edge of my seat. Very, very dangerous.

It was strange watching it - the Japanese commentators were exctatic then in the last minutes it was like they were commentating at a funeral.

Brazil can't get their shit together, wont win anything if they continue to do so. Ronaldo is lost somewhere.
England never wins, forget about them. They never have balls to advance anywhere. I am not trying to be mean, but England is just like Russia, fail at the stupidest, easiest games.
-------------------------------------------
Now, listen, I've seen every single match from the day one when Germany opened the world cup. The teams on my watch list so far are:
Germany - fantastic performance in the first game, great attacks, great goals.
Australia - think of Euro 2002 for a second. Greece won because of their coach strategies. Right now, Australia has #1 coach in the world and 3-1 after loosing 0-1 in first half to Japan proves it! And Japan is not some piece of shit african 1 million populated country, their soccer is major. Australia on other hand is first time in world cup and already kicking ass.
In my opinion international soccer is getting so competitive that even if you have a great squad like Brazil, you wont have much chances anyway. I think that coaches play the biggest role in soccer events like this. Euro2004 proved it, WC2002 proved it for USA, WC1998 proved it for Croatia and hopefuly, WC2006 will prove it for Australia.
MattUK
Jun 14th 2006, 1:01 am
Australia?!? :D
The only teams that have a chance of winning it are Brazil, England, Argentina, Italy and Germany. Australia will have to beat either Brazil or Croatia to get through to the next round. I just can't see it happening.
Brazil can't get their shit together, wont win anything if they continue to do so. Ronaldo is lost somewhere.
Ronaldo has been poor for years, I don't know whay anyone was hyping him before the tourament. He'll be dropped within the next two games. They don't exactly need him when they have Ronaldinio, Kaka and Adriano anyway.
England never wins, forget about them. They never have balls to advance anywhere. I am not trying to be mean, but England is just like Russia, fail at the stupidest, easiest games.
England have NEVER 'failed' at an easy game in the world cup. They're slow starters, this is the first world cup for somthing like 15 years that they've won their openening game.
Englend normally go out to a good team, either on penalties as agains Germany in 1990 and European championships in 1996 and 2004, or they're beaten narrowly by a better team as by Brazil in 1992.
Euro2004 proved it, WC2002 proved it for USA, WC1998 proved it for Croatia and hopefuly, WC2006 will prove it for Australia.
Yes a coach makes a big difference, but that's just once that a unexpected team have gone on to win any big tournament in more than 30 years. I don't think you can argue that it's proof that a poor team can or will win it.

Ecuador are turning to be the surprise package of this World Cup. Pretty impressive 3-0 demolition of Costa Rica . They are now assured progress into the next stage. Kudos to the Ecuadorean coach for getting the best out of them. And now......If Ecuador top their Group and Germany comes second ........If England win their group which is quite possible given the current scenario,we could have a game between Germany and England in the second round

England suck at this point. Trinidad Tobago is like winning ..!
Nah, T&T played a very wide game. It's easy for any team at this level to defend that way, but T&T are also very organised. This meant we needed to play a lot of long 50 yard balls which are easily defended and often inaccurate. Our only chances in the first half were made from diagonal balls, as this was the only real way to penetrate their defence. When we brought on Lennon and Rooney though, our tactics changed and we were able to play much shorter and high paced, Lennon did great and had a massive impact upon the game, T&T at this point were broken. The only thing left to do was score, and the second goal (gerrard) shows how we're getting our form back.
Either way T&T played well, but England dominated the game, I think we deserved 3 goals :) A lot of people complain about Englands form, but we're getting better every game, remember last game we played with a striker who hasn't played for months and was missing Rooney, I'd much rather we peaked during the knockouts rather than doing an Ecuador and peaking too soon, it's a marathon, not a sprint.
I'm glad Sweden won though, as it'll give us something to play for on Tuesday, would be pretty boring knowing that we've already won the group when we play them.
Skinny, what's all this about sharpness? hehe... I agree that England haven't played their best, but a lot of teams haven't. Brazil played really badly, I think a lot of their players were lazy and they never seemed too bothered, I hope they don't win because they don't deserve it. Compare their performance to Ghana, or even the Iranians, who both played blinding games. France didn't play well at all, but I think they could easily start clicking. US did play really bad, 'textbook football'? I'm hoping they improve though, I remember we won against them in a friendly sometime last year and they played a lot better back then.

I know it won't last but I always try to spread any risk to minimise any potentail losses.

Yep ... I agree, yesterday was pitiful. England always seem to do this in contests, qualify and then play poorly.
But on the upside, at least they are not peaking too soon. It has been 2 (crap) games, 2 wins and 6 points. The problem is that this doesn't reflect their current form at all!
Based on current form I don't think there will be many teams in the second round who should be scared of England. I mean, T&T nearly scored. If that header went in the game would have been soooo different.
