How does World Cup affects internet

Any expert / researcher to study the effect of World Cup on internet?
Like online activities, eBay, adsense... as people watching TV, less time clicking on the net.

I think we all would like to know the answer to this. But the internet is just so darn big, it's hard to generalise.

Hundreds of supporters may be inside watching the World Cup, or down at the pub. Therefore, less online activity. But they might also need to look up facts about it on the net, so certain sports and news sites see more action.

But football widows and others who hate it could be driven out of the pub, or left home alone with nothing to do but surf the net. The World Cup may also have some impact on when people take their holidays, and this is a phenomenon that you can see, year after year, has the effect of depressing most internet activity (except travel sites).

All of the above is just guesswork. In order to do a good study, you would need access to the stats from a decent range of sites in different industries and for various audiences. It's worth doing, because even if you can't benefit from this knowledge this year, there is always the Olympics, and the next World Cup, and so forth.

I've seen papers on Internet usage and traffic patterns during the Olympics. Mostly in the areas of more bandwidth and access points at the events.

I don't think that the Football World Cup affects American internet users because not everybody likes Soccer in USA!

These days, internet gets overloaded during games.. Live Streaming ;) i watch most matches on my laptop while am doing work. i use atleast 3GB - 10GB per day. greedy
