Hi,
getting backlink is one job we need to do.

but does it matter where we get this from?

suppose we have a niche car or mobile phone and we are getting backlink from

webmaster forum, or a blog which is on Adsense etc.

does it really matter from where we get backlinks

any negative marking/ banning thing can happen is from diff. niche

thank in advance for your suggestions.

uuuuumm what you just mentioned is one of the main reasons why sites get penalites and sometimes BANNED. Google HATES paid ads and tries to nullify them. If you get a backlink from an unrelated site that it is OBVIOUS that it is a paid link. If it's really bad and the site is linking out to a bunch of unrelated sites and yours is one of them there is a very good chance that both of your sites will get penalties.

Think about it, why would a Toronto car blog link to a UK SEO blog, there's no incentive. It's obviously a paid link and this was just an example I've seen a lot less relevant links then the example I mentioned.

Not strictly true, Google wouldn't penalize a site because another site is linking to it, that would be ridiculous and easily exploitable by malicious webmasters trying to wipe out the competition.

Links from related websites are always better than unrelated sites, but a link from any site won't damage your rankings unless you reciprocate.

Example: Say I was a member of a photography site, and I put a link in my profile to my blog, which is about idk, Astrology. Google wouldn't penalize either sites, despite the sites having nothing in common.

Also paid links are not the only way to get backlinks, but don't try link exchanging, because then both sites would be penalized - if caught by Google.

Any backlink helps a little bit. Furthermore Google, Yahoo and Live don't use the same algorithm, so you never know ;)
Sure, in-content links from established and related sites with a reasonable amount of outbound links is the best you can get.

ok great thanks all of you.

now i have great deal of information.

no i am not doing any link exchange but i do have outgoing links for some good sites in my niche

one more question

if we are gettign links from different niche higher PR

what benefit we get from this?

zero benefit? or some.

my experience in last 10-12 days is slight increase in my traffic(approx 10%) and more over some inquiries.
dont know whether this has played the game

but it has happen for the first time and i haven't done anything else.

except posting in forums with my signature.

There is still benefit. Nobody can tell exactly how much.
You will have to try it and see how it works for your site.

I dont think google will penalize sites for backlinks from unrelated niches as i got pick a site and put lots of backlinks on unrealted sites and thus result in theier penalisation. It would not be a fair approach

Of course not. Otherwise I would just link to my competition from unrelated sites :D

Unrelated links carry very little, it any, weight in helping you rank better. You want links that are from related sites, and more importantly, trusted sites. Trusted sites already rank well for the keywords you are targeting.

Build the best site in the niche if you want to get people to naturally link to you. Throwing up some site and hoping to rank well for any competitive term is why most people fail at making any real money or having a successful site. Give the user the best possible experience and with time and a little promotion, everything will fall into place.

Take a long term approach. It may take a year or more. If you want easy money right away, then this is the wrong business.

If you only get a drop in PR than you're lucky, as PR has no real significance in SERPs rating.

But there are things that can go wrong, you can loose your ranking and rank lower for a particular keyword, and you can also get de-indexed from google.

If you are chasing for good PR for your sites, then link development is very important.

Backlinks from related websites with your targeted keyword as anchor text are best.

On the other side, if you get 2,000 backlinks from various sites from all over the internet because of a great article you wrote it will benifit you alot.

I think relevance of backlinks is important, at least get the majority from relevant sites/pages.

google count back links which are more relevant, however make sure to avoid bad incoming links that most of the time we won't aware of it.
