Hello. ColdFusion looks like an interesting thing to get into.

However, I have just about no idea as to what it is. Could somebody fill me in?

Coldfusion in my opinion is better for creating dynamic pages and is easier to learn than php, asp, perl and those kind of scripting languages. A lot of work can be managed and done by simple point and click work. With a few codes to keep in my you can easily create forms, dynamic pages, carts, admin areas and all those and more creative stuff. It is good for newbies and people who do not have the time to code or learn to code. ANd it is also widely accepted so you have no problem deciding and worrying. It is worth the buy.

It is much easier to start with, very well documented with sample code, database oriented, search engine integrated. WHen I'd been selecting what language I would stay with I selected CF

One thing is for sure, Classic ASP vs. CF: When I first learned CF many years ago - I found out it was a Friggin One liner to upload a file. This made me smile! ASP requires massive ammounts of code to upload.

That's true. And now with BlueDragon available you can deploy your CF code on your own server with no payment unless you're going to provide hosting

snark009: I have been coding in CF for about three years now. My best learing resource was EasyCFM.com You will generally get a quick response for any level question you may ask and a bunch of tutorials. A lot of my first applications were cuts and pastes from their tutorials.
